Note: Woven Threads designs and manufactures artisanal textiles, at the moment we are only working with artisans of Nagaland, collaborating with different communities, and we do wish to explore beyond the boundaries in the future with indigenous communities.

Noklak happens to be one lucky community and we appreciate their hardwork and sincerity that is going places.

Noklak Women Artisans Shine at Rashtrapati Bhavan 🇮🇳

Women artisans from Noklak, Nagaland proudly presented handcrafted Ehlon-niu fibre textiles to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the Presidential “At Home” Reception.

Many of the artisans travelled outside their home states for the first time to showcase Northeast India’s traditional craftsmanship on a national stage. The handcrafted pillow covers were made using indigenous stinging nettle and wild rhea fibres under the Woven Threads initiative in collaboration with artisan communities across the Northeast.

Around 80 artisans, mostly women from remote Northeast regions, participated in the prestigious programme celebrating local culture, weaving traditions, and contemporary design.

Woven Threads, along with a community of artisans from Northeast India, had the honour of meeting the Honourable President of India, Droupadi Murmu.

We shared our experiences of working on the “At Home” project under Rashtrapati Bhavan through the support of the National Institute of Design - Ahmedabad (NID), as part of the Republic Day celebrations, January 2026.

The mother ship also brought together more of our colleagues, now all entrepreneurs from across the Northeast - collectively representing our respective states through indigenous knowledge, and creative manufacturing.
