What I’m practicing while drawing isn’t patience. It’s presence.

Patience can feel like wanting the finished piece before it exists — a quiet tension between now and the future. But a drawing can only be done when it’s done. Rushing toward it only steals from this moment.

When I let go of needing it to be complete and fully arrive where I am — with this line, this wash, this breath — the conflict disappears.

Maybe the secret to patience… is simply presence.

Some days are still finding their colour.

Working on this commissioned piece reminded me that growth doesn’t happen all at once. There are layers you don’t rush, transitions you have to trust, and moments where things feel unfinished—but are exactly where they need to be.

Recreating a master’s work isn’t easy.

This process teaches me so much about technique, discipline, and observation — like stepping into the role of a student again. This is one artwork from a set of four, shaping up slowly, and what fascinates me most is seeing how the work still carries a clear distinction between the great master Pierre-Joseph Redouté and my own evolving hand.

These commissioned pieces have been on my drawing table since mid-2024, and now, as we reach the end of 2025, I feel deeply sorry to the clients who have shown nothing but patience throughout this time.

At the same time, I remind myself that I am only human. BYKDstudio is run by a single pair of hands — mine.
The past year and a half has gone into building structure, finding direction, and laying the foundation for the brand I am creating.

Through it all, these artworks have witnessed every phase. They’ve grown with me, alongside the studio.

They’re taking their time — slowly shaping into statement pieces that will one day bring colour to a black-and-white themed foyer.
