Modern architecture does not have to detach itself from where it stands, from its context in the name of luxury.
"Jodhpur" begins with a simple idea: to create something unmistakably statement, while allowing the identity of the city to remain present through it.
The house is carved from a big chunk of Chittar sandstone sourced locally, which is warm, tactile and deeply rooted in the material language of Rajasthan. But the statement here is not in the stone, for us it is the blue.
Drawn directly from Jodhpur: the Blue City, deep indigo mineral plaster is introduced into the carved voids of the residence. Rather than using blue as an applied colour or decorative reference, we have treated it as architecture: a cool, recessed plane that cuts into the warm stone massing, creating depth, shadow and a distinctly local identity while still feeling contemporary.
During certain times of the day, the blue almost disappears into shadow. At others, particularly at dusk, it becomes the defining element of the house where the indigo of the architecture is meeting the indigo of the Jodhpur sky.
This is our interpretation of contextual modernism. Understanding what "makes" a place, its material, colour, light, climate and memory, and taking it all and translating those qualities into a contemporary architectural language.
