A brand new month begins with a very special celebration... today, Kenya turns 33!
As one of the three original chimpanzee residents at the Center for Great Apes, Kenya has spent decades making this sanctuary her home, and her clever, determined personality continues to shine through every day.
Kenya is an expert problem solver who loves enrichment that puts her mind to work. Whether she's using sticks to "fish" treats from puzzle feeders or figuring out how to take apart toys and enrichment items, she's always keeping her caregivers on their toes. (Long sticks require a little extra supervision around Kenya... she's very good at using them!)
She also knows exactly what she likes when it's time to eat. Fruit is always first on the menu, followed by vegetables, starches, and finally her primate biscuits. Air-popped popcorn, dried fruit, and diluted juices are among her favorite treats.
Within her family group, Kenya's caregivers affectionately refer to Chloe as her "little sister." Like many siblings, the two have their occasional disagreements, but Kenya is also known to step in and look out for Chloe when needed.
Please join us in wishing Kenya a wonderful 33rd birthday!
A special thank you to Kelley G. for sponsoring Kenya's day today and helping provide her birthday treats and daily care. Your generosity makes celebrations like this possible!
