Celebrating the Capitol & Making of Chandigarh

The historic legacy of Chandigarh is invariably frozen in time by citing the baggage of its very own iconic past rather than paving the way to address the future. Cities are living microcosms they must evolve over time, lending a lease of life. We must reclaim our public spaces. These glorious urban spaces need to be activated and animated on a regular basis to become part of an active city life. People should be able to wander around – walk jog and idle around soaking the spirit of its modernist legacy.
As part of Foundation Chandigarh’s inaugural initiative, we engaged with city dignitaries, policy leaders, architects and academia to assess the making of Chandigarh. This was done in collaboration with University of Cambridge, Global Humanities Initiative, Chandigarh College of Architecture CCA Chandigarh and Department of Tourism, Chandigarh. Huge thanks to Prof Shruti Kapila (Co-Director at Global Humanities Initiative and Prof of History and Politics) for making this happen and Dr Christopher Turner (Head of Architecture & Design at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London) for his keynote address at the historic Pit of Contemplation.
