Adipoli-Kerala Reimagined.The project is a Kerala Cuisine restaurant.The client being a Malayali and I being a Malayali myself it was too much fun and understanding among us for each and every idea or proposal we made.

“THARAVAD Architecture “ was the concept of the whole design. Any house in Kerala is guarded by plants and trees.In Adipoli also we tried to make the surrounding space with green landscape to start with. You enter first to an entry verandah seating with four columns supporting the Mangalore roofing above and red terracotta tiles on the floor directing towards a 8feet x 4 feet Chettinad Door with brass fittings.
The interiors is more like a warm,open to air ambience with heritage coloured cement tiles(Blue colour pattern,Red colour pattern in the middle,Yellow colour pattern towards the kitchen) on the floor.Ceiling painted grey with a simple 4inch white moulding surrounding the sides.The windows made of teak wood with jaalis at the bottom of each window creating a light and shadow effect in the inside. Inclined windows creating like a balcony dining space at certain corners.
Light fixtures used are old antique handi lamps with diamond cuts on its surface .A radial glass cap creating a beautiful pattern of light on the grey ceiling above.A laterite (Chira ) wall with a see through glass window, partitioning the kitchen and the front of the house but connecting both the space visually through the glass window.

This is a glimpse of the process behind our recently designed Hospitality space “ RAJU KI CHAI “.The space is in Fort,Mumbai near Hornimon circle ,an area well known for being the commercial zone in Mumbai.With an amazing brief by the clients on creating a space more Local,Indian and liked by all. The space is a response of a local tapri or chaiwala which we find in our streets. The design is not to divert from the vibe you get at a tapri but to enhance it with more modern approach. The materials,the colours,the textures and the environment are more local and Indian. A good fortune of ours to collaborate with Raju Ki Chai and the team.
