All the objects in the Toys1 Series. In my projects last year, i did not deviate from hand building, and that too with Slabs. i used my model making knowledge, bestowed in my architectural education, to imagine the clay as a 2d surface, and derive objects from it by modification of shape, cuts and folds. These boxes were made of size 2"x2", with the volume being created by surface development. To escape the pain of experimenting with glaze, i opted for simpler solution- colored clay slip but more refined. engobes.
Also, to clarify- all of these are Sinter Engobes, ie, Food Safe.

Set 4 of Building Blocks, Finished in Engobe to get a uniform color. Blue and Green are prominent shades in my work, and I am drawn very emotionally to that color. Here, the bisque ware is dipped greedily into the engobe, hence a thick layer, characterized by pinholes occurring on the surface. The idea of using engobes to color the blocks was to create a matte texture in a cost effective way of 'glazing' the bisque ware, as opposed to using the normal TR Glaze that I am used to. Of course it is possible to get a matte finish in glazes as well, but I am yet to experiment and understand the mechanism that happens to get that surface matte.
