Unpredictable discoveries continued on my first visit to Amritsar. And that Lord Elgin, the new cocktail bar and restaurant, may be redefining this second-largest city in Punjab on India’s culinary map. Different, cosmopolitan yet regionally-forward.
On a sunny afternoon, we strolled through a paved walkway to reach Lord Elgin . Sundry visuals remind one of various references: a Bridgerton-esque setting, a hidden garden cave or a time-travel to a Victorian-era glasshouse. Founders Kavish and Shruti Khurana worked with Sanchit Arora of RENESĀ Architecture Studio .architects to shape the space into reality. High glass ceilings, a central curved bar, bespoke chandeliers only begin to define the details here. “The bar was to depict a sun-drenched palette set within its own oasis that provides a sense of exotic escapism,” says Sanchit.
What’s on the menu? While chole-kulche and dal makhani are colloquial staples of Amritsar — chef curators Suvir Saran and Vardaan Marwah add their seasoned strokes to bring global yet local dishes. Modernistic Delhi-6 chaat packs the sass of flavours found at chaatwaalahs in Old Delhi. And this is not all!
Tour the space and read more about all that Lord Elgin bundles up. (Link in bio)
