This Wednesday I’m at the Fabricut showroom in Chicago for a CEU: Color in Context: Understanding Color Through Textiles.

We’ll go past the color wheel and into how perception, material, texture, and context shape the way we experience color — reading evolving color trends, working with professional color resources, and translating those insights into textile palettes.

Session W6-31, part of Design Chicago. Wednesday, September 23, 3:30–4:15 PM, Suite 6-117, THE MART. Free with registration — link in bio.

It’s been ages since I last visited the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Kips Bay Decorator Show House and this year’s house in Greenwich Village was a stunner. My favorite was the Velvet Hour Lounge by Dunnam Zerbini Design Dunnam Zerbini Design

Color, texture, and textile are layered so that wherever the eye settles, a detail rises to meet it — Karin Sajo ’s embroidered upholstery, dense with raised blooms; a sculpted rug; foliage suspended in a lucite tabletop; Fromental hand-dyed tea paper on the walls, beneath a golden mica frieze by Kravet

Tomorrow evening I’m moderating a panel at FIT!

I studied Textile/Surface Design there, and it’s where I fell in love with weaving. Tomorrow I’ll give a short presentation and moderate a panel with Lori Weitzner, William Storms, and Brian Delp, built around one question: what does it mean, and what does it take, to create and sustain an interior textile practice in New York today?

The evening is presented by New York Textile Month, FIT’s Textile/Surface Design program, and The Textile Eye.

A few years ago, FIT’s alumni magazine HUE profiled The Textile Eye, tracing the my path from a doodle in the back of French class. Being written about by the school that taught me remains one of the highlights of my career, and moderating this conversation about our field feels like another full circle moment!

Hope to see you at Bob Fisch Hall, 227 West 27th Street. Doors at 6:00, program at 6:30. Free to attend, and registration is open — link in bio!

More from NeoCon!

Daniela Venezia is back on the floor at theMART, working her way through the showrooms and gathering everything she can for The Textile Eye. The textiles, surfaces, and new product launches are giving us plenty to think about.

We’re already pulling together the ideas worth a closer look for our Fall Contract Report, and there’s a lot.

A quick favor…

As The Textile Eye continues to grow, I’m taking a fresh look at what we’re doing and where we can improve.

One of the questions we’re asking is a simple one: What would make The Textile Eye worth the price of a subscription?

If you have a few minutes to share your thoughts, I’d be very grateful. Whether you’re an in-house designer, a freelancer, an art director, or other textile industry professional, your feedback will help shape what comes next.

As a thank you, we’ll be giving away three copies of our Spring Report to survey participants.

You can find the survey at the link in bio.

Many thanks for your help. ❤️

The Textile Eye in action!

Are you attending the Interwoven textile show in High Point this week? Be sure to stop by the Topteks showroom in Market Square Textile Tower #870 to see these inspiration boards, pairing the Topteks color range with directional trends spotted in TTE. A great example of how professional merchandisers are using the reports as a creative tool. Looking good! .usa
