The Levantine synagogue was built between 1538 and 56l by Jews from the Eastern Mediterranean and retains most of its original features.
It is the only synagogue in the Ghetto to have a noteworthy exterior.
Protruding from the tacade is a polygonal structure characteristic of Venetían architecture known as a Liago.
To the right of the entrance is the Midrash Luzzatto, a small, very fine study and prayer hall which contains probably the oldest Torah shine of all the Venetian synagogues.
