【水無月 柿田勝郎面工房｜令和8年6月】
梅雨の季節なのに水無月？ この不一致にお気づきですか？ 和暦は古くから日本に伝わる暦で、旧暦を軸にされてきました。実は旧暦でいうと今は4月末、本来の6月は梅雨を通り越した7月中旬からを指します。本格的な夏の時期で水の干からびるカンカン照りの日々が続くという意味です。
さて、現在の暦に戻ると、この6月の末には夏越しの祓えの茅の輪くぐりが、素戔嗚（すさのお）や大巳貴（おおなむじ）を祀る神社を中心に行われます。暑い夏を健康で過ごせるよう祈る習わし、日本人は昔から過去に感謝し、未来のために祈りをささげてきました。日本人の誇りを持って！ 工房の面たちも、優しくみなさんを見守っています👹

【Minazuki｜Kakida Katsuro Mask Workshop | June 2026】
Although this is the rainy season, the month is called Minazuki (June). Have you ever noticed this seeming contradiction?
The traditional Japanese calendar has long been based on the lunar calendar. In fact, according to the traditional calendar, we are still in late April. The original “June” referred to a period beginning around mid-July, after the rainy season had passed.
The name Minazuki is said to reflect a time of intense summer heat, when the water begins to dry up under the blazing sun.
Returning to our modern calendar, at the end of June many shrines—especially those dedicated to Susanoo and Ōnamuji—hold the traditional Chinowa Kuguri purification ritual as part of the Nagoshi no Harae ceremony.
This custom is a prayer for good health through the coming summer. Since ancient times, the Japanese people have expressed gratitude for the past while offering prayers for the future.
Let us carry that sense of pride in our hearts as Japanese people.
