Invisible. Sensory. Simple.

LICHEN is designed to be enjoyed in everyday life. Products are encased in the clean lines and smooth curves of porcelain ceramic containers. Minimalist forms are balanced with a deep material warmth: the clay is a soft earth colour, its surface gently grained to the touch, mirroring the organic tones and textures of nature. This is achieved through the highest quality of craftsmanship, with each piece created with handcrafted precision by artisans in Arita, a town in southern Japan renowned for centuries of porcelain heritage.

All these elements ensure LICHEN’s sensory explorations of the natural world are rooted in the rhythms of daily life.

私たちの想像は現前する空間よりも遥かに広い。この壮大なる空間は私たちの記憶の中で無限に続いていく。イマージュは私たちの想像力によってのみ広がり、永遠を手にすることができる唯一の価値である。想像力とは美しさを受け入れることから離れ、その空間を刷新し、新たなイマージュを生み出す事。私たちの未来もまた、その想像の中の空間で無限に広がりつづける。

Our imagination is much larger than the space it merely inhabits.This splendid space goes on forever in our memories. Images are the only value that can expand and take hold of eternity through our imagination. Our imaginations move ourselves away from embracing beauty, renewing that space and creating new images. Our future also continues to expand endlessly within the space of our imaginations.

| About Scent

LICHENは嗅覚だけではなく、視覚や聴覚など全ての感覚を内包する知覚のレイヤーによって可視化される空間デザインです。天然精油をベースとした香りのテクスチュアは、他の感覚と共生することで完成するように余地が残されています。身体に纏う、部屋に灯す、暗闇に焚くことで嗅覚以外の感覚と共鳴しあい、空間が可視化されます。

LICHEN is a spatial design visualised by layers of perception that encompass not only the sense of smell, but also all of our senses, including sight and hearing.The textures of the fragrances, based on natural essential oils are left open to be completed symbiotically with our other senses. Wearing it on the body, lighting it in a room or in the dark makes the space visible by resonating with other senses than merely smell.

| About LICHEN

Lichenとは地表や樹木に着生し共生していく地衣類の意。その儚い生命は地球上に存在する他の生命や物質と共鳴しあいながら、気の遠くなるような時間をかけて旅をしてきた。私たちもまた、空間に存在するあらゆる物との共生によって存在する。知覚は私たちが与えられた無限の価値であり、時間と空間の形成によってのみ存在する。

LICHENは、私たちの想像の中で共鳴しあいながら拡大する知覚のレイヤーであり、これまでも、そしてこれからも私たちの想像の中で拡張する、壮大なスケールで描かれたノートの断片である。

Lichen is a composite organism (between a fungus and an algae) that symbiotically grows on the surface of the Earth and on trees. Its ephemeral life has travelled across an extraordinary length of time resonating with other lifeforms and matter on our planet. We too exist in symbiosis with everything that exists in space. Perception is an infinite value we are endowed with and exists only through the formation of time and space.

As such, LICHEN occupies a layer of perception that resonates and expands in our imagination, a fragment of notes composed on a grander scale of that which has been and will only continue to expand.
