◜How to Care for Your Watoji Futon◞

● Please fold your futon mattress daily and maintain good airflow to allow moisture to dissipate.
● The best care is to air it out (with the cover) under sunlight for about 2 hours on each side between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. If sun-drying is not possible, hang it or place it indoors where it can receive as much sunlight as possible.
● While sun drying or airing the futon, please refrain from beating the futon.
● The cotton filling is not intended for washing, so please always use it with a futon cover. If stains occur on the fabric, gently wipe the area with a damp cloth.
● When stored in a drawer or closet, please do not store your futon back into the closet immediately after use, but wait a while for the water content to evaporate.

◜購入的日式傳統床墊如何保養◞
● 請每天將床墊摺疊收納，保持良好的通風，以發散濕氣。
● 最佳的保養方式是在上午 10 點至下午 3 點之間，連同被套一起放在陽光下曝曬，每面約 2 小時。若無法進行日曬，請將棉被懸掛或放置於室內可充分照射陽光、通風良好的地方。
● 在日曬或通風時，請勿拍打棉被。
●床墊的棉花填充物無法水洗，請務必搭配棉被套使用。若表布沾染污漬，請以擰乾的濕布輕輕擦拭。

In 2017, while searching for work in textiles and manufacturing, Yuma Kinosh*ta came across Daitou Shingu and joined the company. He started in fabric cutting and later moved to cotton filling, a crucial step often considered a key process in futon making. “I had never done cotton stuffing before, and I wasn’t sure if I could handle it.”

He trained under a craftsman with 50 years of experience for about five years.
“He would put his hand inside a cushion and say, ‘Stuff the cotton like this,’ but I couldn’t see his fingers at all. At first, I just watched, confused.” Over time, he came to appreciate the complexity of the work and the responsibility it carries.

This time, we interviewed him, now in his ninth year, to reveal the life of a craftsman and what happens inside the workshop.

𖧧 寢具職人的幕後秘話：專訪製造課樹下雄馬

2017年，樹下雄馬在尋找紡織與製造業相關工作時，與大東寢具相遇，並加入了公司。他最初負責布料裁剪，之後轉任棉花填充的工作。這道工序被認為是製作日式床墊（Futon）過程中最重要的環節之一。

「我以前從來沒有做過棉花填充，也不確定自己能不能勝任。」

為了掌握這門技藝，他師從一位擁有50年經驗的職人，接受了約五年的指導。

「師傅會把手伸進靠墊裡，然後說：『棉花要像這樣塞。』但我根本看不到他的手指是怎麼動的。剛開始的時候，我完全摸不著頭緒，只能在一旁觀察。」

隨著經驗的累積，他逐漸體會到這項工作的精妙之處，以及肩負其中的責任感。

如今已入職九年的樹下雄馬，在本次訪談中分享了自己作為職人的成長歷程，並帶領我們一窺工坊內部的日常工作，以及寢具製作背後不為人知的技術與堅持。
