京都で五代続く京和傘の老舗です。茶道家元御用達の本式野点傘をはじめ、番傘、蛇の目傘などの各種和傘の製作、修理、を行なっている京都で唯一の和傘製造元です。 「伝統は革新の連続」を企業理念とし、和風照明「古都里-KOTORI-」を始め、MOTO、ryoten、傘庵などの様々なデザインプロダクトも開発しております。

毎年5月4日、滋賀県高島市の大荒比古神社で執り行われる「七川祭」の
祭礼で使用される大傘の修復をさせていただきました。

修復作業のなかで、ろくろに記された「大正九年」の文字を発見。
この傘が、106年もの長きにわたり大切に受け継がれてきたことが分かりました。

調べてみると、大正9年（1920年）は、日本で第一回箱根駅伝が開催された年とのこと。
ひとつの傘が、時代を超えて、今日まで様々な人々とお祭りを支えてきたことに、歴史を感じます。

Every year on May 4, the Shichikawa Festival is held at Oarahiko Shrine in Shiga Prefecture.

We recently had the honor of restoring one of the large ceremonial wagasa umbrellas used for the festival.

During the restoration process, we discovered an inscription on the wooden runner bearing the date Taisho 9 (1920).

This revealed that the umbrella has been carefully preserved and passed down for more than a century!

表参道に新たにオープンする店舗様へお届けする、
大傘の制作が始まりました。

和傘は、一本の竹から作られます。
竹を細く割き、また元通りに綿糸で繋ぎ合わせていきます。

割いた竹の順番が変わらないようにつけられた線の目印。
和紙を張ると隠れてしまいますが、
その裏側には、職人たちの工夫が息づいています。

完成まで、丁寧に、心を込めてお作りしたいと思います。

We’ve begun crafting a custom oversized wagasa umbrella for a new space opening soon in Omotesando.

Each wagasa begins with a single piece of bamboo.
The bamboo is carefully split into fine strips, then gently reassembled with cotton thread to return to its original circular form.

Small markings are added to keep every strip in its exact order.
Once covered with washi paper, these marks disappear from sight,
leaving behind only the quiet craftsmanship and thoughtful techniques hidden within.

With care and intention in every step,
we look forward to completing this piece for its new home.

昨年末、上海にて開催されたSOU・SOUさまの展示会
「SOU・SOU　生活文化展・上海站─Living Beauty by SOU・SOU SHANGHAI─」
にて、日吉屋の野点傘をご採用いただきました。

ポップにデザインされたSOU・SOUブランドを代表する絵柄「SO-SU-U」。
完成に胸を躍らせながら制作させていただきました。

国内外で愛されるブランドの新たな幕開けに、
和傘を取り入れていただけましたことを、大変嬉しく思っております。

At the end of last year, Hiyoshiya’s traditional nodategasa parasols were featured at the SOU・SOU exhibition
“Living Beauty by SOU・SOU SHANGHAI” held in Shanghai.

The parasols were created using “SO-SU-U,” one of SOU・SOU’s signature textile patterns, known for its playful and iconic design.

We truly enjoyed bringing the design into the form of a traditional Japanese umbrella throughout the production process.

It was a great honor for us to contribute our wagasa to this new chapter of a brand loved both in Japan and around the world.

アメリカと日本の文化の違いのお話から、ジャズのお話まで。
素敵なひと時をご一緒できたことに感謝しています。

Guests joined our “KOTORI” lighting workshop, inspired by the structure of traditional Japanese wagasa umbrellas.

The selected patterns were Asanoha (h**p leaf) and dragonflies
— both timeless motifs deeply rooted in Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

After creating their own lights,
guests also enjoyed a tour of the atelier and workshop space.

From conversations about the differences between Japanese and American culture to sharing stories about jazz,
it was a warm and memorable time filled with meaningful exchange.

We are truly grateful for these wonderful encounters.
