Today Gabriela Rudnick presented their independent documentary : Sasukenei: dancing with fire (2024)
Sasukenei: dancing with fire (2024)

Sasukenei, in the Fukushima dialect of Japanese, can be translated as “all right, peaceful.” This was the name given by its creator, Kusakabe Masakazu sensei (in memoriam), to the wood-fired ceramic kiln depicted in this documentary. The film, recorded during the tenth firing of the kiln in the spring of 2023 at the Cultural Institute of Ceramics in Cunha (ICCC)- SP, seeks to tell its story and capture perspectives from ceramicists and scholars of different generations about the challenges and unifying capacity present in the wood-firing technique.

2025.04.16. -Demonstration of Ken Matsuzaki san .
On the third day the workshop participants had the opportunity to see a Ken Matsuzaki’s demonstration’s in the morning. In the afternoon everyone visited to his studio, where the master did a teabowl trimming demonstration, than had a cup of tea with the master and conversations about pottery in his gallery space .

2025.04.16.-Ken Matsuzaki’s workshop- the last day’s workshop was held by Ken Matsuzaki. He showed us how he’s building one of he’s most characteristic shape .
Later in the morning he did a demonstration on wheel . In the afternoon the group had the opportunity to visit to he’s studio .

2025.04.15~Teabowl workshop with Ryuji Hodaka// The workshop participants had the opportunity to see Hodaka San’s teabowl demonstrations by handbuilding , then on wheel . In the afternoon everyone had the opportunity to make their own matcha bowl

The three-day workshop from the 14-16th April for Opulent Journey (Australia ) began yesterday in Mashiko Tougei Club.
On the first day, Shirobe Kobayashi conducted a workshop. After his slide show ,ikebana and “khaki” vase making demonstration, the participants had the opportunity to create their own “khaki” vases.

ワークショップ3日目。

松崎健。

手捻りで成形する花器。
繊細に繋ぎ合わせ、ダイナミックに捻り上げる。
土の塊から作品が生み出される様でした。

ろくろはリクエストされた作品を作るという、参加者の皆さんにとっては嬉しい形で行われました。
急須の注ぎ口のところでは質問が多く、先生も付ける角度や口の形などを仔細に説明されていました。

お昼休憩を挟み、先生の工房へ移動します。
作品を鑑賞し、お茶を頂きながらお話しをしました。

特別な体験をされ、良い思い出になったと思います。

ワークショップ2日目。

穂高隆児。

このグループのワークショップでは初回から毎回講師として参加していただいております。

予め厚めに作った茶碗を、削ったり叩いたりしながら成形する茶碗作りをします。

既存の道具だけではなく、木片や石などを用いて様々な模様を付けていきます。

出来上がった作品は、後日焼き上がったら送られてくるので、お土産にもなります。

茶碗は海外でも人気があります。
このワークショップで作り方を学び、自分達なりに茶碗を作る方が多いそうです。

ワークショップ1日目。

安田猛。

普段は磁器が殆どですが、益子の土を使い、独特なデザインの取手の作り方。
ろくろで茶碗や花器など様々な作品のデモンストレーションをして頂きました。

また、プロジェクターを使いこれまでの経歴や作品の説明をして頂きました。

イギリスや中国など海外での生活が長く、英語が堪能な安田先生は気さくなお人柄な事もあり、参加者の方々から沢山の質問をされていました。
その質問一つ一つにも丁寧に笑顔でお応えされていて、皆さんとても楽しまれている様子でした。

ソーダ窯を修復しました。
焚き易くする為に以前よりも煙突を高く、焚き口を広くしました。
