DOGUNOVA is a craft brand with contemporary interpretation of the Japanese Dogu. A family run pottery studio founded in 1980, dedicated to preserving the Dogu tradition while gradually reimagining it through a modern lens.

"The Most Primitive is Always Contemporary."

最も原始的なものは常に前衛的である。

A form born 4,000 years ago feels so comteporary despite its history. Since 1980, Takaomi Izawa, my grandfather has been creating Dogu and Haniwa.

Dogu Nova was established to keep this craft alive, and to explore a new aesthetic we call Ancient Contemporary — primitive forms that feel more contemporary than anything made today.

Case Study 1: Beauu NYC, Empire State Building, New York City, New York, USA.

Product: The Kamen Dogu & Jomon Venus

Case Study is a fieldwork of the place and space where Dogu Nova's products are used. Today we are pleased to introduce Beauu NYC (), an authentic Japanese cuisine and sushi restaurant in New York City, led by Chef Tetsu Kaminakaya and the team behind Beauu and Izakaya NYC.

Located on the first floor of the Empire State Building, one of New York City’s most iconic historic landmarks, Beauu exists at the intersection of tradition, craft, and place. Within a building approaching a century of history, it is a true honor to present an avant-garde symbol of Japan, Dogū, in this extraordinary setting.

We would like to show our gratitude to everyone who introduced us and helped make this happen, especially to san.
