【美の壺／小泉八雲】
以前「神話いきづく出雲」の放送回で工房をご紹介いただき、またこうして番組の中で取り上げていただきとても驚きました。
2018年、当時越野さんと豊田さんに繋いでもらった方がまさにエバレットさんでした。
初めて目にしたまるで鳥の巣箱のような撮影機は、ペリーが日本に来た時代につくられたものだそうです。
まばたきひとつできない撮影を何度か繰り返し、陽が沈む直前にこれがラストチャンスですね！と言われ撮っていただいたこの1枚は、父と息子と私にとって文字通りかけがえのないものとなりました。
「いにしえのなかの現在、現在のなかのいにしえ」
小泉八雲の思いに通じるという、エバレットさんのこの言葉が、ずっと心に、深く深く響いています。

[The Mark of Beauty (Bi no Tsubo) / Lafcadio Hearn]
I was deeply surprised and honored to have our workshop featured once again, following the previous episode "Izumo: Where Myths Live On."
Back in 2018, it was through the introduction of Mr. Koshino and Mr. Toyota that I first met Mr. Everett Kennedy Brown. I still remember the photography equipment he used—it looked like a wooden birdhouse and was crafted during the same era when Commodore Perry first arrived in Japan.
After several takes, as the sun was beginning to set, he said, "This is our last chance." The single photograph he captured in that moment has become, quite literally, an irreplaceable treasure for my father, my son, and myself.
"The present within the ancient; the ancient within the present."
Everett's words, which echo the spirit of Lafcadio Hearn, continue to resonate deeply within my heart.
