A baobab pod, standing tall.

We’ve been experimenting with a new table lamp that keeps the natural form of the pod almost untouched, elevating it into a quiet sculptural piece.

Handcrafted in our Kilifi Studio, where the material sets the pace and the hand does the rest.

We’re thinking of making it in different heights.

We leave Decorex Africa Johannesburg with hearts full of gratitude.

We are two architects, originally from Italy and Argentina, now proudly calling Kenya home. It was there that we discovered the ancient baobab tree, a remarkable gift of nature that has become part of our everyday lives and the inspiration behind Seedling Designs.

Today, we transform its naturally fallen fruit into handcrafted lighting statement pieces, celebrating Africa’s beauty, craftsmanship, and sustainable design.

This weekend gave us the opportunity to meet incredibly talented designers, artists, makers, and design enthusiasts. Thank you for every conversation, every smile, and every moment of encouragement. Your support means more than you know.

A heartfelt thank you to Decorex Johannesburg for giving us the opportunity to share a little piece of Kenya with South Africa. It has been an unforgettable experience.

The name Meekono is inspired by the Swahili word “mikono,” meaning “hands”—a beautiful reminder of craftsmanship, creativity, and the people behind every handmade piece.

High in the branches of the ancient baobab, a fruit ripens under the African sun. For generations, the baobab has been revered as the Tree of Life, a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and community.

We feel deeply grateful to work with its fruit. What nature has already perfected, we simply transform with care. Each shell is handcrafted into a light that carries a small piece of Africa’s story into homes around the world.

Suspended beneath a double height ceiling, fourteen handwoven Nanasi : pineapples become a cascade of light, drawing the eye upward while celebrating the generosity of the volume. Their rhythm softens the architecture, adding warmth, movement, and a sense of quiet wonder.

Inspired by the craftsmanship and spirit of the Swahili coast, this installation was designed to feel at home beside the Indian Ocean in Kilifi, where natural light, sea breezes, and handmade textures belong together.

The most memorable interiors don’t simply hold beautiful objects. They tell stories through light.
