Beginner Woodcarving Class

I had such a wonderful time with these amazing children!

Thank you so much Kate Waterkeyn for entrusting me to take them on this artistic experience with wood.

They made beautiful souvenirs to remember about their time here!

I always come out having learnt so much about myself from spending beautiful moments with these little people!
I appreciate it so much!

Beginner Woodcarving Class: Children Edition
It was a beautiful joy to carve with Iza and Balt. Iza wanted a fish rather than the usual plate.
Most children at this age want to carve their names. I am left asking myself why this is so?

We had a wonderful time connecting and laughing with each other. They made wonderful souvenir pieces to remind them their time here.

Part 3: Handcarving the different design motifs on the personalized signboard

Carving the Polepole Personalized Signboard

Step 1: Sketch out a design that moves you internally

Step 2: Use your V chisel to carve in the general outlines

This is one of the most exciting part of my carving process - seeing the design start to take shape🌻
I love it!

Designing a Personalized Signboard

I love this part of the process!
For sure, if the design isn’t a resounding YES within me, the carving won’t be as well!

Handmade Wooden Signboard
I wanted to incorporate motifs of traditional Swahili art and chose the Bajun flower (that I am carving in the video) and the logo for the foundation in Kenya.

loved the sketch I did and I proceeded with the carving

Now, we are feeling out different types of finishing for the signboard. Paint it or leave it plain? What do you think? I would love to hear your opinions

I enjoy the whole process of experimenting and finding different woodcarving chisel materials

This is my kitchen!
I love cooking up some woodcarving chisel recipes
Which metal works best? What wood is the best for the handles?
How can I strengthen the metal I have?

I feel so grateful and blessed! I always have the biggest smile here! It always feels like Christmas with life giving me all these tools to play with!

BEGINNER WOODCARVING LESSON
El Johar came to me with no woodcarving experience. She was attracted to this design on the wooden doors

Through step by step guidance, we built her skill and confidence with the chisel. In 3 hours, we made this design that she was proud to have as a souvenir from Lamu.
