Hey I’ve had lots of enquiries lately about prints, thank you!! So I’m very pleased to say a re stock of our illustrated Kampala and Uganda prints, as well as many others, are due to land by end of this week at the Klafts shop up at Tank Hill Park in Muyenga, Kampala!! Please let me know by DM if you don’t find what you’re looking for, especially in terms of size or frame colour, or if you would like an unframed print!

Now it’s feeling like home !🏡

Our shipment arrived almost a month ago (when we were in the Masai Mara!) and now we are pretty much fully unpacked and even getting things up on the walls, much to my delight!

Making a house a home is possible with the treasures and material culture that tell the evolving and unfolding story of who we are and where we’ve come from.

This map was first to go up! I found it folded up at an antique market in Kyiv in 2017; we flattened it out as best we could and then had it framed after moving from Ukraine to Uganda. It was always special to us and now it means even more since the current war started in 2022.

It’s about time I posted some of the projects I’ve worked on over our winter school break here in Kenya!

I rescued this old wooden ‘pigeon hole’ unit from an outdoor scrap heap for an upcycling project! I knew it could be a great addition to our newly forming creative crafts/sewing room!

It needed a lot of tlc but was pretty straightforward and I enjoyed getting my hands busy with it and seeing instant results!

Anyone else thriving on a practical or creative project lately?

What a delight to stop in at one of our favourite little spots on Lake Naivasha today, on the way to Lake Nakuru, and find Under the Candelabra has recently reopened after months of renovation!🩷🎉

So happy to see the pottery shop and studio revamped and back up and running their pottery classes as well! I’m planning my first one soon after sadly selling my wheel in the UK before emigrating again..

We treated ourselves to a couple more pink pieces to compliment our handless cups then enjoyed a browse at Elementaita Weavers, the little farm shop, topped by a walk with the zebras after our delicious lunch at The Coffee Hut!

This is a highly recommend visit if you’re ever nearby. This hidden 💎 definitely covers my mantra, all in the one stop, of create, curate, cultivate, celebrate (the latter by way of supporting small local business & handmade)!

The crystal lake paint certainly adds more contrast with the lighter upper cupboards than the mint green provided!

It’s that time when international schools start wrapping up the academic year and some expat families are packing up their lives and prepare for their goodbyes. Believe me, I’ve been there so many times!

Studio Seven commissioned an illustrated map of both Uganda and Kampala back in 2021-22 and it has been particularly popular at this time of year for gifting others or oneself! These are unique hand drawn maps by an alumni of ISU and have been particularly cherished by our community in Lubowa, Kampala.

I’ve been in my happy place the past few days with a kitchen cupboard makeover, and this project has been serendipitous with its timing.

I received an encouraging message from my bestie (unbeknownst to her I was painting green at the time) about the green pastures and calm waters of Psalm 23. And the name of the paint is Crystal Lake.

These details don’t go unnoticed and help me feel the final elements of the 9 months of ‘nesting’ and waiting for the arrival of our container are all worth it and all the more meaningful! 💚💚

We’re nine months in to our journey of settling in Kenya, and as with gestation, I remind myself that good things take time and of the natural process that can’t be rushed.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted and I probably jumped ahead of myself with the new logo as I’ve had to lay some things down for a while. I’m now beginning to make some connections and to dream about creative ideas for Studio Seven.

So grateful that some things keep gently bubbling in the background like the printing and framing of our illustrated maps and prints in Kampala!

For now I’ll be engaging in a few more home interiors projects before our shipment finally arrives in Mombasa on 22nd June (so likely here in early July) to make the house ready to be a home, so please keep following along.

In the meantime I have never stopped drawing inspiration by what’s happening around me in the everyday.
