There are so many reasons women get into chamas.
Some to save, some to buy household items, some to accumulate money for a big project.
Growing up I saw my mum in so many chamas and honestly she inspired me.
On some Mondays and Thursdays she will go the market/ chamas and come back with a cow or a goat.
There is a goat she bought with chamas money that used to give her triplets every time it was due. Eeeyi that goat. We named her nyagomweri.
Every opening day, she would either have a goat or cow to sell to cater for our school fees.
Most of these goats and cows were not in our homestead. She gave them out to friends and family (riembo)
I remember one time my mum had an accident and she thought she would die. Wacha mama aniite na kunihesabia cows and goats out there that belonged to her. I was shocked.
I made a list of 22 people🤣🤣🤣.
Okay, most of them, my dad had no knowledge of. Women😁😁😁
These chamas and savings came through during rainy season.
Apart from financial security, these chamas give us a sense belonging.
We want to feel we are a part successful group or we have people we can count on.
So please, don't lecture us about MMF and Sacco's. Si uende Kwa hiyo sacco yako on a Saturday upikiwe na ucheke utoe tension ya the whole week.
I am in a mums group for kids who skate. We contribute very small money, but the joy is in the meetup with our babies on Saturdays to discuss how my baby got bruised, twisted and arm and just relax as one watch out the kids as others do udaku. Let me tell you maina, I enjoy and adore that company.
Financial analyst and experts, we will consult you on other financial matters, not this one.
Thank you.
Haya baas, mshikane watano muanze chamas ya curtains
Nitashona na nilete siku ya chama.
