Skylar by Meridian is an Ascott-branded hospitality development where The Room Architecture and Design delivered comprehensive technical design for the reception lobby, guest rooms, and public spaces. The project focuses on translating design intent into precise, construction-ready documentation aligned with international hospitality standards.

The scope included detailed drawings, material specifications, and coordination across all interior components, developed in close collaboration with the developer and Ascott’s technical team. Siena translates the medieval character of its namesake Italian city into a contemporary restaurant within Phnom Penh’s modern skyline. Positioned within a mixed-use tower, the design serves a dual audience of international business travelers and local corporate clients, providing a refined venue for both professional gatherings and private dining.

The interior strategy balances cultural narrative with the operational demands of a high-performance hospitality environment. Spatial planning ensures flexibility across various dining formats, while soft lighting and plush seating prioritize user comfort and intimacy within an active office district. Expansive windows create a dynamic visual connection to the urban landscape, reinforcing the restaurant’s positioning as a premier city destination. Italian culinary tradition is aligned here with the evolving needs of Cambodia’s international business community.

How do you translate a high-level brief into a landmark build?

At Malis Restaurant, Techo International Airport, the journey from concept to completion was driven by a clear objective: to create a cultural anchor within a global transit hub. By pairing modern luxury with deep-rooted heritage, we delivered a space that balances brand presence with operational efficiency.

Yi Sang is a Chinese fine-dining restaurant designed for city professionals, balancing cultural heritage with modern elegance. The interior strategy uses a disciplined layout and warm, layered lighting to create an inviting space that supports both high-level business discussions and private dining.

The design prioritizes user wellbeing through curved banquettes and acoustic comfort, encouraging conversation and connection. Cultural narrative is embedded throughout the space, from brass details inspired by traditional gongs to a custom counter constructed from hundreds of chopstick rests. Subtle patterns aligned with Feng Shui principles guide movement and energy, ensuring the environment remains composed and balanced. This approach honors Chinese tradition while providing a high-performance dining experience that meets the expectations of Cambodia’s evolving professional market.

Dak Dam Market is designed as a dynamic centre where local culture and commerce intersect in Mondulkiri province. Flexible vendor stalls support local food and artisan crafts, with layouts that balance daily use and visitor experience while keeping operational costs low.

Sustainability is addressed through shaded areas and natural ventilation, creating a comfortable environment suited to the local climate. Raised above the ground, the structure integrates rooftop gardens and green façades, connecting the market to its surrounding landscape. A modular system allows for future expansion and adaptation, supporting long-term use. This approach strengthens local livelihoods while creating a clear connection between community, nature, and commerce.

Where do great ideas come from?

Inspiration isn’t just a lightbulb moment. It’s a journey. Sometimes it’s found in the pages of a classic architecture book. Sometimes it comes from a walk through the city. Often, it’s sparked by a simple conversation over coffee.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Khéma GO is the first of three designs completed for Thalias Hospitality Group in Phnom Penh's Flatiron by Meridian tower. Designed for the city's growing crowd of busy professionals, young entrepreneurs, and business travellers, the space offers a quick moment to rest during a hectic workday from its corner position in the building's ground floor lobby.

Inspired by Scandinavian design, the space adopts a minimalist and functional approach, using durable materials such as light oakwood and grey concrete finishes with clean lines to set it apart from other coffee shops in the city. The result is a simple, bright, and elegant atmosphere that reflects the warmth and intimacy of the well established Khéma brand in an open space.

Offering ready packaged gourmet sandwiches, salads, and baked treats, Khéma GO is a compact and refined expression of the Khéma restaurant experience, delivering a more modern and metropolitan coffee shop for Phnom Penh.

Urban Village Phase 2 introduces minimal lobbies and a coworking environment that support a balanced urban lifestyle in Phnom Penh. The entry spaces use clean lines, natural materials, and daylight to create a calm arrival experience, setting the tone for a connected residential community.

The coworking space extends this approach through open layouts, flexible work settings, and modern furnishings that accommodate different working styles. Integrated wellness elements, including outdoor yoga and fitness areas, support daily routines beyond work. Together, these spaces form a cohesive environment where productivity, wellbeing, and community are aligned within a contemporary urban setting.

How do you design a 211 sqm space to host everything from quiet study to community events?

For AmCam Exchange, we focused on spatial flexibility to make every meter work harder for the next generation of leaders. The layout balances a dedicated library for focused study with a multipurpose hall that reconfigures effortlessly for collaborative workshops, lectures, and live performances.

More than just a fit-out, this is a platform for young people interested in STEM, entrepreneurship, and English language learning. The design provides the visual separation required for scholarship and educational guidance, while remaining an inviting, open space for people to relax and collaborate.

With a palette of dark blue, light grey, and red, the design balances comfort with a clear identity to support U.S.-Cambodia cultural exchange and future study opportunities. A place where ideas and culture come together, and communities grow.
