A Contemporary Tropical Retreat | Jaffna
By JAYAMPATH GUNASEKARA ARCHITECTS

A holiday home designed in Jaffna as a private retreat with the ambience and experience of a boutique hotel.

The design explores a series of simple, pavilion-like volumes arranged around landscaped internal courtyards. The composition creates a strong connection between the interior spaces, gardens and open-air living areas, while maintaining privacy within the property.

The architecture combines clean white walls, dark grey pitched shingle roofs, warm timber elements and extensive glazing to create a contemporary yet calm tropical character. The generous roof forms provide shade and shelter, while the courtyards bring natural light, greenery and ventilation deep into the house.

Rather than treating the garden as a separate element, the landscape becomes an integral part of the architecture — with planted courtyards, timber decks and outdoor spaces creating a sequence of relaxing experiences throughout the home.

The generous covered entrance and entertainment areas are designed to accommodate both private family gatherings and a more relaxed hotel-style holiday experience, with spaces that encourage indoor–outdoor living.

The overall concept is intentionally simple and restrained: a modern tropical retreat that balances privacy, nature, comfort and entertainment within a distinctly Jaffna setting.

House Renovation Project | Nugegoda
By JGARCHITECTS

From an ageing façade to a contemporary home — a complete transformation on the same footprint.

This Nugegoda residence is a great example of how thoughtful architectural intervention can completely redefine an existing house without losing the value of its original structure.

The renovation focused on giving the home a fresh, contemporary identity, while improving its functionality, visual character, natural light and connection with greenery.

The existing weathered façade, outdated railings, canopies and finishes were replaced with a clean architectural language featuring strong geometric forms, minimalist detailing, large glazed openings and carefully integrated landscaping.

The new design introduces a bold combination of clean white surfaces and charcoal accents, creating depth and definition across the façade. Generous glass openings and transparent balcony railings bring more light into the interiors while giving the upper floors a lighter and more open appearance.

Greenery has also been incorporated as an important part of the façade, softening the architectural forms and creating a more pleasant relationship between the house and the street.

The transformation demonstrates that renovation is not simply about repairing or repainting an old building. With the right architectural vision, an existing house can be reimagined into a completely new living environment.

Same plot. Existing home. A completely new architectural expression.

Minimalism meets bold geometry.
By JGARCHITECTS

This modern contemporary residence is designed around clean lines, floating volumes, and seamless indoor-outdoor living. The dark upper mass creates a striking contrast against the crisp white base, while full-height glazing maximizes natural light and openness.

A rooftop terrace extends the living experience beyond the interiors, offering a private urban retreat with panoramic views. Every element — from the linear façade to the restrained material palette — was crafted to balance elegance, functionality, and timeless modern aesthetics.

A home designed not just to stand out, but to feel effortless.
