“Masks of Power”

This painting explores the unsettling distance between public identity and private intention. Every figure appears masked, suggesting not protection but performance — a carefully constructed face shown to society. The mask symbolizes the transformation of individuals who once emerged from among the people, carrying their hopes and trust, yet gradually became separated from those very origins.

The double life presented here is not merely personal; it is deeply political. On one level exists the visible persona — reassuring, composed, and authoritative. Beneath it lies another reality shaped by ambition, control, and the quiet negotiation of power. The mask therefore becomes a boundary between promise and action, sincerity and strategy.

Rather than portraying specific individuals, the painting reflects a recurring human condition: how authority can alter identity. When power is gained, the authentic self may be concealed, replaced by a role that demands appearance over truth. The figures seem present yet distant, connected yet unreachable, emphasizing a silent tension between leadership and responsibility.

The work invites viewers to question what is real and what is performed. Are the masks worn to deceive others, or have they become so ingrained that the wearer no longer remembers their original face? In this ambiguity lies the emotional weight of the painting — a meditation on trust, transformation, and the fragile relationship between people and those who govern them.

Ultimately, the painting suggests that the greatest disguise is not the mask itself, but the moment when the mask becomes indistinguishable from the person wearing it.
