Solias Mendis (1897–1975) was a pioneering Sri Lankan mural artist, best known for the iconic wall paintings at Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya. Self-taught and deeply inspired by ancient Buddhist art, his work revived classical Sinhalese mural traditions through expressive lines, earthy tones, and powerful storytelling.

🎨 Vincent van Gogh: The Artist Who Painted His Pain

Vincent van Gogh wasn't just a painter — he was a storm of emotion, color, and raw passion. Born in 1853 in the Netherlands, he created over 2,000 artworks in just a decade. But here’s the twist: he only sold one painting during his lifetime.

Van Gogh found inspiration in nature, ordinary people, and the night sky. He once said, “I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.” That thought gave birth to his masterpiece: "The Starry Night."

Battling mental illness and isolation, he poured his soul into every brushstroke. His swirling skies and vivid yellows weren’t just colors — they were emotions made visible. Wheat fields, sunflowers, self-portraits — all told stories he couldn’t put into words.

Despite a life filled with struggle, today van Gogh is one of the most loved and studied artists in the world. His work reminds us: great art doesn’t need fame — just feeling.
