Quick Tips

* Draw with your shoulder, not just your wrist.
* Keep your pencil moving.
* Don’t erase—draw through your mistakes.
* Focus on movement before details.
* Practice 10–15 minutes every day.
* The faster you draw, the better you’ll understand gesture and motion.

Set a timer for 30–60 seconds (or 10–20 seconds for an extra challenge). The goal is to capture the movement, not create a finished drawing.

Before drawing, study the entire pose. Look for the overall movement, weight, balance, and direction. Ignore small details like the face, hands, and clothing.

Start with one flowing line that represents the main movement of the pose. This “line of action” is the foundation of your gesture drawing.

Use simple shapes to build the body:

* Oval for the head
* Ribcage and pelvis as simple forms
* Cylinders or lines for the limbs

Keep everything loose and light.

Connect the arms and legs using simple lines or cylinders. Focus on the direction and flow rather than anatomy or muscles.

Quickly compare the sizes and angles of the body parts. Make small adjustments if needed, but don’t spend too much time correcting.

Strengthen the drawing with confident strokes. Suggest the body’s volume while maintaining the flow and energy of the pose.

Once the timer goes off, stop drawing. Resist the urge to fix mistakes. Gesture drawing is about training your observation and speed, not perfection.

From blank paper to the first few lines—every artwork begins with a simple sketch. ✏️

I love the freedom of sketching because it’s where ideas come to life without worrying about perfection. Every line is part of the creative journey.

What’s your favourite part of the art process—sketching, line art, or adding colour?

Frida Kahlo didn’t paint despite her pain—she painted through it.

Every scar, every heartbreak, every challenge became part of her story, transformed into art that still speaks to the world today. 🎨❤️

A reminder that creativity isn’t about having a perfect life. It’s about having the courage to create from where you are.

What’s something you’ve turned into strength through your art?

A few minutes. One Apple Pencil. Pure creative flow. ✏️✨

Quick sketching is my favorite way to loosen up, sharpen observation, and let creativity flow without overthinking.

Not every sketch needs to be perfect—sometimes the quickest drawings teach us the most.
