Another recognition for DAWL. This time, with the Premju Emanuele Luigi Galizia 2026, the project has been selected as a Finalist in the Single Dwelling Design Award category.

At the heart of DAWL is an appreciation of the Maltese terraced house as a valuable and adaptable form of urban living. Rather than replacing the typology, the project asks how it can be rethought to better respond to contemporary life.

By inverting the conventional domestic arrangement, living spaces are brought together around a central courtyard, while the more private spaces occupy the cooler lower level. Light, air and movement become tools for shaping the experience of the home.

For us, DAWL is ultimately about finding new possibilities within something deeply familiar — extending the value of the terraced house rather than moving away from it.

A moment worth celebrating!

Our project, Birgu’s Living Piazza, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Urban Design category of the Architecture Hunter Awards 2026, one of just six projects selected from thousands of entries globally.

A recognition of the vision behind creating a public space that brings people, heritage and everyday life together.

We’re proud to see this project recognised once again on a prestigious international stage.

We’re proud to announce that two of our projects have been selected as Finalists in the SHARE Architecture Awards 2026.

DAWL reinterprets the traditional Maltese townhouse through a central courtyard that brings daylight and ventilation into the home. Named after the Maltese word for light, the project combines passive environmental strategies, limestone’s thermal mass and carefully considered openings to explore contemporary living within Malta’s climate.

Birgu’s Living Piazza reimagines Pjazza tal-Belt Vittoriosa as a people-focused public space, transforming a predominantly vehicular and parking-dominated area into a pedestrian-friendly piazza for gathering, movement and everyday life. Shaped through dialogue with the Birgu community and local stakeholders, the intervention reconnects the square with the historic identity and living character of the city.

We’re honoured to see both projects recognised among this year’s finalists.

The Studjurban team shall be presenting these projects to a prestigious international jury in London in December and winners shall be announced thereafter.

Studjurban’s Pjazza tal-Belt Vittoriosa in Birgu project has received a Special Mention at the Architizer A+ Awards, placing it in the top 5% of thousands of entries submitted from around the world.

The awards platform reaches a global audience of over 400 million people, making this recognition a meaningful milestone for our team at Studjurban, for the project itself and for Maltese urban design.

More importantly, this recognition reinforces the philosophy that Studjurban has been constantly promoting: that public space belongs to people.

Our latest completed project, Thirty Three Boutique - Adults Only by K Hotels, designed and executed in full collaboration with 3DM Architecture and Architecture XV, brings a distinctive architectural presence to the streetscape while creating a refined boutique hospitality experience within.

Defined by sharp lines and layered volumes, this project represents both a bold architectural statement and a striking new addition to the urban hospitality scene.

From concept sketch to visualisation, this terraced house was shaped by a clear ambition – open up the interior while celebrating the existing central staircase as a sculptural feature and anchor for the ground floor.

Positioned between the living area and the kitchen-dining space, the staircase serves as a subtle divider, maintaining visual connection and encouraging light to flow throughout. Timber, terrazzo, and soft neutral finishes create a contemporary yet warm material palette that defines the home's character.
