Pénélope Barbier was born in France in 2002.

Her paintings sit on the line between abstraction and figuration — fragments of a recognisable world surfacing out of layered colour and texture, then dissolving back into it. The source material is personal: found materials and remembered ground from the rural landscapes and Mediterranean coastlines of her childhood. The result is an interplay between the remembered and the imagined.

She works in series rather than one-offs — Couchers de Soleil et Cavaliers, Hivers et éclairs, Automnes et fantômes, Printemps et fleurs, Feuilles et Traces. Seeing several together is the point. Repetition is how a practice shows you what it is actually after.

Pictured: Hérons, a unique oil painting — $36,326 MXN.

Fourteen of the sixteen works in her collection are still available, from $32,867 MXN.

Every established artist was once unknown.

The names that anchor collections today began in modest studios, showing to small rooms, selling to a handful of early believers. What separates the artists who endure is rarely a single striking work. It is a body of work that deepens over years without losing its identity.

There is a practical test for this. Look at six or eight works by the same artist without reading the labels. If you can tell they belong together, and can also see the newest ones doing something the earliest ones were not, you are looking at a practice. If they look interchangeable, or like six different artists, it has not found itself yet.

Depth, not novelty, is the truer signal.

Three days left with JoCa.

Neon Reveries — JoCa's debut show on Artsy, presented by Art of NOMA — closes Sunday, August 30. Ten works, all made in 2026, online exclusive.

It is the signature "non finito" language pushed somewhere new: neon-bright colour laid into abstract texture, figurative realism surfacing through it, neither one allowed to finish the other. Faces fracture, dissolve and reassemble — identity treated as something perpetually under construction.

Neon Dream (3) has sold. Lightning Bolt (US$7,900) and Neon Dream (18) (US$7,250) are still available; the other seven are price on request.

Art of NOMA is a contemporary art gallery in Mexico City devoted to the discovery and development of a new generation of artists. Every work is an authenticated original with a certificate of authenticity, shipped worldwide.

Sculpture is the collecting category most new collectors skip — and the practical reasons why are exactly what make it worth a second look.

Placement, lighting, fragility, shipping: these questions send most first-time buyers to work that hangs flat on a wall. The result is a market where strong three-dimensional work by emerging artists sees less competition and more accessible pricing.

A sculpture occupies real space and changes as you move around it. Bronze, ceramic, wood and stone each carry their own weight and history, and a well-made object rewards attention over years.

Seven original sculptures are available at Art of NOMA, from $9,330 MXN, shipped worldwide with a certificate of authenticity.

Every work at Art of NOMA carries its price on the page.

In a physical gallery, prices usually aren't on the wall — you have to ask, and the asking is itself a small test of whether you belong there. That's the exact step where most first-time collectors are lost.

We have no gallery space, and that's the point. The whole collection is visible at once, permanently. Most originals sit between USD 600 and USD 5,000; signed limited-edition prints start at USD 250. Every work ships fully insured worldwide with a certificate of authenticity.

We're also honest about what's lost online — scale and surface don't transmit through a screen. The full piece explains what we do about that:
