Mexico City Backstrap Weaving & Textile Heritage Retreat | Nov. 6–12, 2026

Spend seven days immersed in one of Mesoamerica's oldest living traditions.

Join us in Mexico City for an intimate retreat where you'll learn backstrap weaving (telar de cintura) through daily hands-on workshops while exploring the city's extraordinary textile and cultural heritage.

My last weaving session was filled with so much connection and joy 🧶
I love how weaving brings people together—across generations, friendships, and relationships. It’s never just about creating something with our hands; it’s about creating moments, connections, and memories along the way. ✨🧵

Weaving has a beautiful way of bringing people together. 🧵✨

This workshop was extra special because it brought together friends, mother and daughter, and moments of connection shared through the art of backstrap weaving.

I loved seeing them participate side by side—learning, creating, and sharing the experience together. These are the moments that make every workshop so meaningful. 💛

Thank you for joining me and for being part of this beautiful weaving community. 🪡🌿

✨ Fourth backstrap weaving session ✨

What a beautiful day to gather, weave, and share time together. With the perfect weather around us, friends came together to learn, practice, and enjoy the process of backstrap weaving.

There is something special about the rhythm of the loom—the patience, the concentration, the laughter, and the conversations that naturally unfold as we weave. 🧵💛

Thank you to everyone who joined this fourth session and made it such a meaningful experience. Each session continues to remind me that weaving is not only about creating with our hands, but also about creating connections. 🌿✨

Backstrap weaving teaches us that creativity doesn’t always need the “perfect” setup. ✨

Today, my sofa and my own feet became part of the loom. One of the beautiful things about backstrap weaving is its adaptability—the tension comes from the weaver’s body, allowing this ancient tradition to be practiced almost anywhere.

Every thread connects me to generations of weavers who have carried this knowledge forward with skill, patience, and resourcefulness. Whether on the ground, on a bench, or on a sofa, the weaving continues, one thread at a time.

The backloom weaving session brought together women creating a space not only for learning but also for meaningful conversation. As hands moved through the weaving process, stories were shared, friendships were strengthened, and wisdom was exchanged.

These gatherings remind us that weaving is more than a craft—it is a way of bringing people together, one thread and one conversation at a time. 💛🧶

This weekend my back loom weaving session brought together generations of women—from curious young hands to experienced makers. ✨

Sharing this ancestral art with both young and older women reminds me that weaving is more than creating textiles; it’s about connecting stories, traditions, and community. 💛

A special moment captured with this wonderful young weaver, proving that traditions continue when we share them with the next generation. 🧶🌿

The looms are ready!

After weeks of planning, measuring, cutting, and warping, everything is set for our upcoming Introduction to Backstrap Weaving and Warp Your Own Loom workshops in Calgary.

There is something special about seeing a loom prepared and waiting for its weaver. Each one represents the beginning of a creative journey—learning traditional techniques, connecting with textile heritage, and discovering the rhythm of weaving by hand.

In the Introduction to Backstrap Weaving workshop, participants will learn the foundations of this ancient textile practice and create their first woven piece.

In the Warp Your Own Loom workshop, students will learn how to prepare and dress a loom from start to finish, building the confidence to continue weaving independently.

I can't wait to welcome everyone and share this beautiful tradition.
