This Historic Home needed a proper Study.

We book-matched an addition of a Mahogany Paneled Library to be symmetrical with the addition of The New Family Room.

The New Library is as natural to the Home as is The Tradition of The Timeless Collection of Furnishings.

Heart of the Home….

This addition to the Home, enlarged a former smaller
room for family gatherings.

Now the expanded room captures two seating areas and a central table for casual dining, gaming, and entertaining.

I set out to create a dining room that felt historic.
It suited the home to be “period“

What a Joy to scout London with colleagues to find the perfect table at Patrick Sandberg, lighting at Michael Denton, Silk painted wallpaper from de Gournay…. And always, Christie’s and Sotheby’s.

Although the house is original in its layout and interior architecture, the millwork was removed to update the hvac and electrical systems.

When the house was put back together, it was an opportunity to update some of the millwork, embellish a bit more where necessary. Add the Palladian window at the first landing of the staircase, and create the entry vestibule into a mirrored birdcage (inspired by a centuries old lift cab at Claridges London).

A homage to the owner being an orithologist.

Yes, my designing friends… This was the 5th Avenue Apartment of the Late Great Designer, Sister Parish.

This is its Third Rendition since she Graced HER chintz inspired Pied a Tier. She later modernized a bit with the keen eye of her partner Albert Hadley. However, then Mario Buatta did quite a “Buatta” for a long standing client.

With my esteemed client, we reimagined a Historic Home on a Lake in Washington and a sprawling Home on the water in Florida. Both have Sister and Buatta influences….

However Folks, it’s the 21st Century and it’s New York City!

Traditional with a BIG Twist.

My shopping days in Paris would normally start with the Star of the Best Finds, Ariane Dandois.

She along with her daughter, Ondine de Rothschild make a stunning pair. There in-lies my Passion for PAIRS However, Ariane WOULD always came up with QUADRUPLES. Hence the Four French Ormulu Chinoiserie figurative statement sconces living happily in this 5th Avenue Apartment.
