Abbott (Bone Dry Phase)

After finishing Costello, it was only a matter of time before his "straight man" arrived to complete the duo. While they share names with the aliens in Arrival (2016), the resemblance ends there—Abbott is here to be the exasperated voice of reason.

The Vibe: Think grumpy Victorian clerk meets zero-gravity alien. I wanted a "world-weary" fish with three eyes, a formal bowtie, and a cat-ear hat—a terrible disguise suggested by Costello to "blend in" on Earth. An absurd masterpiece.

The References:
Style: A nod to the Gorillaz aesthetic (love them).
DNA: A mix of The Umbrella Academy’s Carmichael and The Simpsons’ Blinky.

Hand-sculpted and currently in the bone-dry stage. No cracks, no drama.
Next stop: the first kiln firing. Stay tuned!

Bush people do exist! My pawns in live-action!!

Maybe I’m forcing the connection just to see them on the big stage—if I’m being honest, they don’t actually look that much alike—but I’ll take the creative coincidence.

My ceramic chess set inspired by Where the Wild Things Are is currently on exhibition at TORRENTE Galería, inside Fábrica La Aurora.

The soundtrack of the studio during the chess set process. These are the songs that played while the clay was wet and the ideas were wild. Put on your headphones and join me in the place where the wild things are.

Although I often consider myself a solitary person, everything I’ve created until now is the result of a tribe of people supporting me in different ways. Queen. A symbol of power, stripped down to its core. In this set, the Queen isn't a figure, but a character—an abstract authority that rules the board with silent, ceramic grace.

Board, a world built cube by cube. The wooden board provides the grounding for the ceramic chaos above. It’s where the wood and clay finally meet to tell the story of a journey home.

The Rook is the anchor. Inspired by Carol’s impulsive yet protective nature, this piece stands tall and solid—a minimalist tribute to the biggest heart in the forest.

Pawn. The only piece not born from the film. I realize now, this is my place among the beasts: the shy observer with bare feet, hidden safely inside the bush.

THIRD (and final) POST about COSTELLO.
First on the process, second on the finished piece, and now: the sale.

After featuring in several Art Walks at Fábrica La Aurora—including November's Día de Mu***os celebration—the TORRENTE team has found this space octopus a new home. It's now en route to California.

Watch the pre-packing process video, taking the piece from the gallery to the shipping experts for its journey to the US. I can't thank TORRENTE enough for the care they pour into handling art. Thanks for believing in my work, opening your doors, and supporting me—you're exceptional gallerists and even better friends. GRACIAS!

"It's a long travel," as the song goes. And it certainly has been. This is the largest piece I've made to date. Because at (SCS), size does matter – they have the biggest kiln I've encountered in any San Miguel studio!
So, finally, after a small test te****le (you might recall it from a previous post!) and a mini version of this model, 'COSTELLO mini' (which was invited to an exhibition at in Isla Mujeres and sold to a US collector), I present COSTELLO. From the 'ItSpace' series, made at San Cayetano Studio, owned by artist and managed by artist .
This piece was developed over almost a year. I was invited to assist the maestra, Estefania Loera, at SCS just outside San Miguel de Allende, and in the process, I had the chance to develop this personal project. After creating two human astronauts at my place, it was time for a Martian.
It was an excellent experience in a space immersed in nature, where I had the opportunity to connect with other artists and enrich myself with their experiences and knowledge. Everyone brought something to the table to share, and I certainly took a lot from that collective wisdom. Thank you to each and every one of the wonderful team at San Cayetano Studio.

Usually, I share a 'before the kiln' post to show how pieces look before the unpredictable journey of the firing process. It's a way to document their original state. Then, if all goes well, I follow up with a post of the final, fired result.
For Costello, things are a little different! You'll see both posts together – the 'before' in this one, and the 'after' immediately following. This way, you can instantly compare the starting point with the final outcome. All of this was created during my time at . I hope you enjoy seeing the transformation!
