The future of creative industries will not be shaped by talent alone, but by how systems choose to value people, ideas, and work itself.

Thank you to every chapter that showed up, contributed, questioned, and engaged with intention. Regional alignment does not happen through visibility alone. It happens through difficult conversations, critical thinking, and collective direction.

F-IND was never built to stay comfortable. And this is far from the end.

More forums. More countries. More conversations that industries are still afraid to have.

*The real world does not need more slogans*

Many design students are not entering the industry unprepared because they lack talent. They are unprepared because the system trained them to create, but not to protect themselves.

We keep telling young designers, “Don’t do free design.” But if there is no syllabus, no workshop, no pricing training, no negotiation practice, and no contract education behind it, then we are not educating them. We are just repeating a slogan. And slogans do not protect designers from unpaid pitches, vague briefs, free proposal requests, “do it for exposure” offers, and clients who want ideas before commitment.

Let’s be honest. Free pitching has become so normal that many young designers think exploitation is part of the learning process. It is not. Unpaid ideas are not opportunities. Free concepts are not “experience.” Exposure is not a business model. And asking designers to think, create, propose, and present without compensation is not collaboration. It is free labour.

This may sound uncomfortable, but maybe the industry needs to feel uncomfortable. Because if even experienced designers are still struggling to say no, how can we expect fresh graduates to defend their value when nobody has taught them how?

Design education cannot stop at creativity, software, and portfolio building. It must teach students how to price, negotiate, set boundaries, communicate value, handle difficult clients, read basic contracts, and walk away from unfair work.

This is not about attacking universities. But if design schools are sending students into the real world without teaching them how the real world actually works, then we need to have a serious conversation.

A stronger design industry will not come from more talented graduates alone. It will come from designers who are trained to create, protect, negotiate, and stand firm on the value of their work.

Ideas are Labour Day.

We celebrate labour like it’s only physical. Like it’s only measured in hours, output, and visible effort.

But the real work? It starts long before anything is built. It starts with an idea.

An idea is labour.
Thinking is labour.
Clarity is labour.
Decision-making is labour.

Yet these are the very things most undervalued, most underpriced, and most dismissed.

You don’t see the hours spent refining a direction. You don’t see the years it takes to develop taste, judgment, and perspective. You only see the outcome and assume that’s all there is.

That’s the problem.

Because when ideas are not respected as labour, they are treated as free.

And when they are treated as free, they are exploited.

This Labour Day, we don’t just recognise effort. We recognise origin.

Before the ex*****on,
before the visuals,
before the final product…

There was thought. And that is work

“ Not All Value is Money , But All Value Converts To Money “

In the creative industry, many designers are talented but not many truly understand the value of design.

And when we don’t understand our own value, pricing becomes confusing.

That is why “free design”, “cheap design”, and “just help me do first” have slowly become the norm.

But this norm is dangerous !

It kills the creator’s ability to survive.
It turns passion into pressure.
It makes designers suffer before they finally understand the worth of their own work.

Design value often begins as something intangible:

An idea.
A story.
A feeling.
A design instinct.
A cultural perspective.
A way of influencing how people see, feel, trust, and choose.

But the real question is:

How do we price something people cannot immediately see?

Because design is not just the final artwork.

It is the research behind it.
The thinking behind it.
The strategy behind it.
The experimentation, refinement, decision-making, and emotional intelligence behind it.

A strong concept can make a brand memorable.
A powerful story can move people.
A unique identity can create desire.
A meaningful campaign can shape culture.

That is why design can carry a high price tag…

Not because it is “pretty”.
But because it creates influence.

And influence creates attention.
Attention creates trust.
Trust creates demand.
Demand creates business value for our client .

This is where creativity converts into money.

Money should never be the only measure of creativity.
But fair payment is what allows creativity to survive, grow, and create bigger impact.

Creativity begins with meaning.
But when it is recognised, communicated, and applied well meaning becomes a market.

I will be conducting a workshop on how creative value can be understood, measured, communicated, and converted into money.

Because designers should not have to suffer first before learning how valuable their work truly is.
