A house that’s been lived in for decades can still feel like the one, with just the right touch.
For this project, the owner has stayed here for many years, and she plans to retire in this very home. Our goal was to refresh the space without taking away its familiarity.
We made a few key changes:
1. Extended the front car porch — turning it into a second living area or gathering room. The existing living room was small and cramped, so this extension provides a comfortable space for family and friends to hang out.
2. Brought in more natural light — since the house faces southwest, the new extension could easily block sunlight. To counter that, we used glass bricks, large windows, and a transparent extended roof to brighten up the space naturally.
3. A subtle design trick in the master bedroom — the bathroom door is now hidden behind a continuous wardrobe panel. This simple detail keeps the look clean and seamless, while maintaining functionality.
