The Art of Stitch

The Art of Stitch Your Online Cross Stitch Store Our Humble Beginnings

The Art of Stitch began in 2006 with a small GeoCities HTML website (remember those?).

We shared our favorite cross-stitch brands with fellow enthusiasts and discovered an incredible community devoted to this amazing hobby. Six years later, in 2012, we took a huge leap by designing our own brand of cross-stitch patterns and joined Etsy, where original and handmade ideas are celebrated. We Learn From You

As avid cross-stitchers, we drew from our own experiences, incorporating our likes, dislikes, and your feedback to create charts tailored to your preferences. While we continue to showcase our work on Etsy, it's here in our own little corner that we truly thrive and find inspiration to design more and more for you.

Now in cross stitch...

Hicks paints the Twining farm with the same flat, vivid folk art clarity and genuine affection for his subject that he brought to his celebrated Peaceable Kingdom series — a warmly coloured, carefully observed record of Pennsylvania rural life that is both historically fascinating and immediately charming.

The Cross Stitch Forecast: What’s Coming in 2027

1. Small, Finishable Projects Take Over The biggest structural shift of 2026 has been the death of the "someday" project. Cross-stitch has become calmer, more personal, and refreshingly forgiving, with stitchers choosing smaller projects, thoughtful color palettes, and designs that feel good to make rather than impressive to show off. The old goal of an enormous full-coverage sampler has quietly lost its grip; instead, mini patterns, sets of coordinating pieces, and quick seasonal projects are everywhere, because finishing something delivers a satisfaction that an unfinished masterpiece never can. In 2027:...

What's next for cross stitch in 2027? A trend forecast covering smaller projects, calmer palettes, and what's really behind the craft's TikTok comeback.

Thank you Cameron for suggesting this gorgeous Waterhouse art..now turned to cross stitch!

Waterhouse's Magic Circle places a white-robed sorceress at the centre of a vast, brooding landscape — staff in hand, fire rising before her — and renders the drama of the moment with the warm, atmospheric depth and figurative beauty that defines his most powerful and compelling work.

How I Became an Expert Cross Stitcher (And How You Can Too)

I still remember my very first cross stitch project — a wobbly little heart on a scrap of Aida cloth, stitched with knots on the back so thick you could feel them through the fabric. That was over a decade ago. Since then, I've stitched hundreds of pieces, ruined my fair share of floss, and slowly picked up the habits and tricks that turned me from "someone who stitches" into someone who genuinely knows this craft inside and out. If you're just starting out, I want to save you some of the trial and error I went through....

Learn how to become an expert cross stitcher through personal tips, techniques, and creative advice from someone who's spent years at the hoop.
