When you turn on the heat, the copper indicator bar will begin to move clockwise around the dial:

Left First Red Line (~9 o'clock position): Preheat / Ready to Start

Meaning: Indicates the cookware has reached the preheating stage and is ready for food to be added.

12 o'clock Position: Fast Cooking
