Is SPC Flooring is Waterproof?
Yes, SPC flooring is widely recognized for its waterpfoof and high dimensional stability thanks to its rigid stone-plastic composite core but there are certain conditions and factors that can contribute to damage warping, buckling, expansion in SPC flooring. Here are some possible reasons.
1. Click Lock System Failures
The locking system is the backbone of Spc
flooring. Common issues include:
Weak lock geometry, brittle click and lock,
breakage during installation
2. Uneven or Bouncy Flooring
Many people assume SPC flooring can hide
subfloor imperfections, dirts , stones etc
Always inspect and level the subfloor before
installation.
Remember: even the highest quality SPC
flooring cannot compensate for a poorly
prepared subfloor.
3. Edge Lifting or Plank Movement
Although SPC flooring is dimensionally
stable, problems can occur when expansion
requirements are ignored.
Common causes include:
- Insufficient expansion space
-Heavy fixed furniture restricting movement
-Improper installation near walls
As temperatures change, flooring may need
small amounts of space to naturally expand
and contract
Always leave the expansion gaps. These small
gaps are typically hidden under wall skirting
and play a crucial role in maintaining floor
stability.
4. Moisture Problems Beneath the Floor
A common misconception is that because
SPC flooring is waterproof.
In reality, the surface of SPC floor itself
is waterproof, but excessive moisture
beneath the floor can still create problems
such as warping, surface flooring wavy,
curved upwards.
Always add moisture v***r barrier sheets
before installation.
