Reflections on MIID REKA WEEK 2026

It was a privilege to hear Master Interior designers from Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Italy and beyond share their philosophies and work.
What stayed with me was less the beauty of the projects than the thinking behind them.

CUSHCUSH from Indonesia showed that a good space doesn't depend on piling up materials; it grows out of local culture, craftsmanship, and climate.

Dr. Christine Bruckner of M. Moser in Hong Kong tied spatial design closely to human experience, stressing that brand, function, and emotion must all be cared for together.

Jeffrey Wilkes demonstrated that the finest work often wins through restraint and completeness, with careful control of detail and narrative.

Ou Sakuthai from PIA in Thailand presented a blend of nature, materiality, and modernity that felt both gentle and powerful.

Each designer had a distinct style, yet all began by asking who they were designing for and why, before turning to form.
This reminds me to follow trends less and to understand place, culture, and users more deeply in my own projects.

The event also reinforced that a designer's vision needs constant widening, and that conversation with peers from different backgrounds is what gives our work greater depth.

Thanks to MIID.

Kulim Specialist Centre – Redefining Healthcare Excellence

Kulim Specialist Centre emerges as a distinguished healthcare destination in Kulim, Kedah—an iconic development that embodies sophistication, innovation, and excellence in modern medical care. Conceived as a premium specialist facility, the project is designed to elevate the standards of private healthcare within the northern region of Malaysia.

Curated by IDS Interior Design, the hospital is envisioned through a signature modern classic language—where timeless elegance meets contemporary precision. The interiors are articulated with refined materials such as white and beige marble surfaces, complemented by bespoke brass inlays and detailing, creating a sense of understated luxury. Clean architectural lines are softened with warm textures and carefully layered lighting, establishing a calm, welcoming atmosphere throughout the space.

Every element is thoughtfully composed—from grand arrival experiences to intimate patient zones—ensuring a seamless balance between aesthetic excellence and functional performance. The spatial planning emphasizes clarity, comfort, and intuitive flow, enhancing both patient well-being and operational efficiency.

More than a healthcare facility, Kulim Specialist Centre is a statement of prestige and trust—an environment where design elevates healing, and where IDS Interior Design sets a new benchmark for high-end healthcare interiors in the region.
