SAFETY CHECKLIST
Hello dear followers, last week we commenced a session on safety and we gave few tidbits about fire safety.
We spoke about what to do when we encounter fire, what to do whenever we hear a fire alarm etc. We look forward to continually remind/inform you on some safety measures which are very necessary in our day-to-day activities.
Today, we shall look at Safety Checklist.
Safety Checklist is a simple Safety Audit which we must carryout in our homes, offices, environments etc in order to identify and eliminate many common safety hazards around us.
A woman was once slicing veggies in the kitchen with her 3-year-old baby when her phone rang in the living room. She quickly left the child in the kitchen in order to attend to the caller. The cry of little Harry brought her back to the kitchen; he had injured his right eye with the sharp knife.
Often times, we are involved in avoidable accidents because we do not take time to identify and isolate some agents around us which can cause harm.
SOME HOME SAFETY CHECKLIST
• Are drugs and alcoholic drinks kept in safe places?
• Do you have working smoke alarms installed?
• Is your hot water system set at 500 C?
• Is your home fitted with a working electrical safety switch?
• Are there push out security screens or window guards installed on upper storey windows?
• Are there devices that spill water on the tiled floor?
• Are sharp kitchen utensils kept out of reach of children?
• Are electrical cords out of sight and reach of children?
• Are all curtain and blind cords out of reach?
• Is all top-heavy furniture such as bookshelves, ovens, televisions (especially wide screens) and bird baths, secured to the wall, floor or ground?
• Are there barriers or gates on steps and stairs?
• Are balcony and deck railings free of climbing footholds?
Take time to use this checklist and also identify possible hazard-causing agents around your home.
