Architecture is a journey of transformation, where thoughts evolve into ideas, ideas take shape as sketches, and sketches materialize into structures. Witnessing a project unfold, stage by stage, is incredibly fulfilling.

Like a mother proudly watching her child grow, an architect finds joy in the progress, the challenges overcome, and the final realization of their vision.

The process may be complex, but the end result makes every effort worthwhile.

Yey 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻, it’s finally here.

Today I am beyond Excited to share that I've just earned my Masters in Architecture certificate! 🏆

Despite the enormous obstacles, including the pandemic, I persevered and achieved this milestone.

What was supposed to be for 24 months ended up taking almost 5 years to get certified, it’s not been easy having to wait this long.

It's a testament to the power of determination and passion in the face of challenges. I cannot wait to embark on another and yet another chapter in my architectural journey!

Next up is professional certification and licensing.

CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD HOUSING

🏡The home must be airy and well-ventilated and naturally lit: Wall openings (windows and doors) must be sufficient and strategically located for maximum airflow and light pe*******on.

🏡The design of the interiors should be ergonomic, this means the design and measurements should be in relation to the human occupants. For safety, solid walls as well as a high roof are required to keep the interior cool.

🏡The material used in construction should be of good quality and right for the climatic conditions of the building location.

🏡The height of the headroom/ceilings should be at least 3 meters for comfort.

🏡Cooking, eating, sleeping, bathing, resting, learning, and storing should all be done in discrete or separate areas. If the house is small, though, the same single room might be utilized for a variety of functions.

🏡The house's sanitary system should be in good working order. A house without proper sanitation is no house, it will surprise you to know that a lot of houses in Nigeria fall short according to global standards.

🏡A reliable water delivery and storage system is required to ensure that good water is available at all times.

Is there something you think I left out? Please add it in the comments section, o would love to hear from you too.

5 INTERIOR DESIGN TIPS FOR LIVING ROOMS.

A lot of people find interior design a difficult task and that’s because they don’t know where to start, today I decided to share these 5 simple but useful tips to a perfect living room.

💡First and most importantly, you must create an atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed, you can achieve this by making sure your living room space is:

Well ventilated with both natural air and artificial ventilation. Windows are very important and should be opened daily for fresh air to flow in.

Natural light 💡 through windows are also essential, windows should be positioned properly and should be large enough to admit enough natural light.

Indoor surfaces such as walls, tables, consoles, mirrors must be kept clean, well maintained and properly finished positioned for a perfect indoor environment.

💡Have a focal point for socializing and group conversations. In the western world, they mostly use fireplaces as focal points but in the tropical climates the most commonly used focal points are TVs and center pieces, you can also use an art 🖼️ piece, an indoor fountain ⛲️ or any bold indoor piece to create a focal point for your living room.

💡Ensure you pick appropriate sizes of furniture for your space and for longevity ensure the designs are minimalist so they don’t go out of fashion in no time. Arrange your furniture to conform with your focal point. Don’t go for trendy pieces else you will have to keep up with trends.

💡Opt for more neutral colors when it comes to more permanent elements such as walls, curtains, furnitures. You can throw in colorful accents such as throw pillows, rugs, blankets, and art pieces. You can use bright colors for statement when it comes to accents.

💡Incorporate plants and other objects that inspire relaxation and calmness into your living room. Indoor plants 🪴, scented candles 🕯️, incense lamps, humidifiers and soft music 🎼 work wonders for relaxation, incorporating them into your living space makes you feel more comfortable at home.

Dear client,

If I ever charge you for a design and you feel it’s too expensive, remember that there was a time in my life that I had to draw every single detail with an isograph on paper.

This particular pen 0.2 had a way of spoiling just when the job is getting interesting, you lose this pen? You can’t continue working on your semester project so you have to use whatever funds you have on you to replace it.

You would rather starve yourself to get this pen than be stuck because you don’t have it.

Whenever you see a millennial architect give us a hug and some contacts, we have gone through fire 🔥.

What are some of your most difficult moments in school? Please share in the comments.

WOMEN ARCHITECTS AND THE STRUGGLE FOR EQUALITY.

Today being the 8th day of March, 2024 is the day set aside to celebrate 🎉 women globally 🌍, what better day to discuss the challenges faced by women in the practice of architecture and the construction industry at large?

Let’s delve into the world 🌍 of architecture and shed light on the gender bias and unequal opportunities women encounter today. This is a very important topic that deserves attention as it affects not just women in architecture but the entire profession.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BARRIERS WOMEN FACE IN THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE?

When it comes to the practice of architecture women face several challenges. One of the most significant challenges we face as women in the field of architecture is GENDER BIAS, this manifests in various ways.

Women in architecture encounter stereotypes that undermine our abilities or the assumptions that we are better suited for certain types of projects, ever wondered why the interior design industry has become a save haven for women?

The unequal opportunities women in architecture face pose serious barriers to our career advancement, leadership roles and equal pay. Little wonder it looks like there are no longer women in the practice of architecture.

On this INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (2024), I will like all the key players to address these challenges and work towards a more inclusive and equitable architectural practice.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY to all the wonderful women pushing frontiers.

Today let’s talk about when to hire an architect.

When do you think is the right time to hire and architect or when to disengage the architect?…………

Let me guess what you think…… you hire an architect when you want a design done and disengage when the design phase is done ✅

Well you are wrong and I will tell you why.

Let’s go:

You should hire an architect as soon as you get the thought 💭 of building something and here’s why:

💡You need an architect for the pre design stages which professionally we call preliminary design: in this stage we talk about what you want, we decide where to locate the design having looked at the design requirements and we look into the design criteria and a lot of other paperworks, I can tell you that this is the most crucial part of our Job.

💡You need a architect for the design stages which include design conceptualization and drawings properly: in this stage the architect uses the information provided by the client alongside proper research and existing standards to ensure you get a functional design as well as a visually appealing design. This covers presentation and well detailed working drawings.

💡You need an architect for the construction stages of your project: Just because an architect has done a great design and handed over drawings to you doesn’t mean his or her Job is over, the architect is in charge of making sure his or her intellectual property (IP) comes out as desired which may include hiring worthy team members to carry out the project and also supervising the project till completion especially at critical times. We can’t go full details now.

💡You need an architect at the finishing and installation stages of your design, especially one who is ethuastic about interior design and decoration, this enables the project come out as simulated in the drawings, it gives you the assurance that your space is properly planned and finished and that the finishes are not just according to suppliers and artisans discretion.

💡In a nutshell you need an architect as long as you live in the built environment, especially when you want to minimize comfort and aesthetic appeal.

Do you need an Architect who is not just skilled but passionate about building your project? Talk to me.

Hi Fam,

Today let’s take a little study into ARCHITECTURE, let’s call it Arc 101, this is the first knowledge I ever learned in school of architecture, if you are going to be here with me for a long while I may as well put you through.

WHO IS AN ARCHITECT?

An architect is a person who plans, designs, and oversees the construction of BUILDINGS.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO PRACTICE ARCHITECTURE?

To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design and construction of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings that have human occupancy or use as their principal purpose.

WHERE DID THE WORD ARCHITECT EMANATE FROM?

Etymologically, the term architect derives from the Latin architectus, which derives from the Greek (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), meaning: CHIEF BUILDER.

So next time you see an ARCHITECT do well to expect from us what we can offer, our Job description is vast, however we cannot do the Jobs expected of other members of our team, but we can and should supervise other members of the team till the project is completed.

What is the misconception you had about architects before now? Care to share? I will be glad to shed more light on that in the comments section.

Hello there,

Have you met me?

Allow me to introduce myself:

My name is Rachel Guwom, my friends call me Bosschic.

I am God’s favorite person.

I come from a family of 8, I’m the 3rd child of 6 children, 30 years of age, a citizen of Nigeria and an indigene of plateau state by birth.

I attended the prestigious University of Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria from where I obtained both B.sc and M.sc in architecture.

I am a brilliant architect who is both skilled and passionate about design and construction, I seek to be a well known thought leader in architecture a few years from now.

I am into the private practice of architecture under the umbrella of RAIDS studio, an architectural and interior design firm which I registered in June, 2023.

I have also worked as an architect in a number of firms and with the 44 engineers brigade, 82 division of the Nigerian army, Enugu state, where I carried out my mandatory 1 year NYSC program, I supervised as a team with others a number of projects including the design and construction of the water treatment plant in Abakpa cantonment, the arms store at 103 battalion and several barracks renovations, as a result of that I was awarded a letter of recommendation by the then commander and received honors from the then governor of Enugu state.

I am a member of the YALI network and Global leadership network, bringing the right kind of leadership to Nigeria and Africa.

On this page I want to interact with you as an architect and interior designer, so get ready for a jolly good ride with me while I share my experiences, knowledge, projects, progress and more valuable contents as the days unfold.

Can I know more about you in the comments?
