Salone del Mobile Milan was a reminder that every experience shapes the way we see, think and create.

I’m grateful to the Nigerian design community for making opportunities like this possible. Learning beyond the classroom, connecting with designers from around the world and bringing those lessons home is how we grow as professionals.

If you’re an interior designer in Nigeria, this is your invitation to join the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN). Let’s learn, collaborate and build a stronger design profession together.

Milan, through our own lens.

Being part of the African delegation representing the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚 (𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐍) at 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞, 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧 this year was an experience that will stay with me for a long time.

This was about showing up intentionally, representing where we come from, and engaging the world from a place of identity and confidence.

The sheer magnitude of the exhibition was impossible to ignore. Every hall told a story of innovation, precision, and evolving design thinking. It challenges you to reflect on your own work and pushes you to think bigger.

But beyond the installations, it was the human connections that mattered most. Conversations with designers and creatives from different parts of the world opened up new perspectives on culture, collaboration, and the future of design.

We also came prepared. The curated works presented by Nigerian designers through the 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐋𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐬 platform at the 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 reflected a shared vision and strong creative voice. It was a proud and intentional moment for all of us.

Nigeria is not just participating. We are contributing, shaping conversations, and leaving our imprint.

.ng Day 1 of 10 of Italian Design Day , held at the Italian Consulate in Lagos brought together inspiring voices for an important conversation on the future of design.

Representing IDAN, Jacqueline Aki, President of the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria, presented: “From Beautiful Spaces to Better Futures: Understanding Regenerative Design in Nigeria.”

Her presentation highlighted the role of interior designers as impact workers whose practice must be impact-led. It called for a shift from creating spaces that are simply beautiful and sustainable to shaping environments that actively give back, support wellbeing, and create greater value for their users. In this way, design moves beyond sustainability and becomes truly regenerative.

The event also featured presentations by Parasite 2.0 , Salone del Mobile , and T**i Ogufere for Design Week Lagos , making it a rich and valuable exchange of ideas across the global and local design community.

IDAN Nigeria is proud to be part of this meaningful collaboration and looks forward to more opportunities to shape the future of design through dialogue, partnership, and innovation.
