A good historical storytelling moment for your Sunday learning/lesson Relaxation.
Thank you for sharing Indigenous Grid about IKENGAā¦
You know, there are some things you hear growing up, and you just accept them because⦠well, youāre a child. š
You hear a name, a practice, a symbol, and you donāt really know what it means. You just have whatever understanding was passed down to you. Sometimes you even grow up thinking, āOh, that thing is fetish,ā or that itās something we shouldnāt be talking about.
And then, years later, you actually start learning about it and realise, wait⦠so this is what it really means?
Thatās why I think documenting our history is so important. Not just preserving these things physically, but actually telling the stories behind them.
Because when the history isnāt documented, people will fill in the gaps with what they think, what they heard, or what they were told.
And sometimes, what we misunderstood growing up is actually a beautiful part of who we are, where we come from, and how our people understood life.
We reallyneed to start telling these stories.
