This past autumn after we were accepted into the IAC / International Academy of Ceramics based in Geneva, we applied to the residency program in Jingdezhen, China. The Taoxichuan Art Center (TXC) & IAC Artist-in-Residency program in Jingdezhen has accepted us into the residency, which starts in April. A few images of the Taoxichuan Ceramic Culture Industrial Park.
Jingdezhen is the ancient capital of ceramics, and has been making them for more than 1,700 years.
It was named “Porcelain Capital” by the Song Emperor Zhenzong in the year 1004. And until the 18th century the only place in the world producing porcelain.
This residency also happens to coincide with the 52nd Congress of the International Academy of Ceramics which will take place in Jingdezhen, with members from all over the world attending.
We have been busy refining our idea for the artwork we must make during our residency, which will go on display in the Taoxichuan Art Center. The opportunity to be allowed to participate in such a prestigious program, and to be able to meet other makers and artists from all over the world is very exciting. This April when we will arrive in Jingdezhen will mark 11 years since we first showed our ceramics, and at that time we didn’t even have a studio or a kiln of our own. Slowly we have been building up to this point, our ideas evolving, and we look forward to taking our ideas and really pushing the boundaries of our artistic process.
We must thank .mcloughlin for getting us to start this whole process, and for writing one of the letters of recommendation needed to join the IAC.
