Re.cycle.D is a philosophy and a vision that is accomplished in in this specific functional art collection through creating. Creativity is the vehicle of self-expression and part of what makes us who we are. The philosophy is about having fun and letting go whilst being in that creative process. To me, creating is only true self-expression if we let go of the end result and let go of what it says
we are. A way of creating that is about feeling, watching, touching, paying attention. Creating something done by being in the moment and not the moment after the now. The vision is about waste having value and not losing interest when something has become waste. But the time we honer our wealth by bringing residual flows back into our houses has only just begun. Based on this philosophy and vision i worked with the materials that came from old bicycles to create this new style of functional art. The bikes used in my products already have lived a long life. In the designs of Re.cycle.D I try to honor this long life of a beautiful product. A product that, by the way, is already a symbol of sustainability on is own. These bikes have been produced locally, they bring hardly any pollution, they are good for your health and these bikes have been in service for a very long time. Just a few of the reasons why most people are font of bicycles. I realized we are even deeper connected with bicycles. After learning to talk, cycling is one of the first skills parents teach their children. And we are proud when we see our young one grabs her bike and ride down the street after just a few tries. From that moment on bicycles are parts of our life and of our lifestyle. They have a rich history and they tell a story. We use our bikes to get around, but also as an extension of our own identity. As a kid you already knew which bike fitted your personality best. Your bicycle told something about you and you knew what you wanted to say with your racer. If you had the right ride underneath your ass, you would go into the world, proud ass a peacock. It didn’t matter where to, nobody could stop you know. This energy and wealth grounded in those iron horses is what I try to capture when I make a product. A product that is as rich and meaningful as a bike. Stylish in its elegance, sturdy in material, modestly distinctive and convincing in presence. The designs of Re.cycle.D are true eye-catchers with each their own identity and story.
