best custom order award for this year?

i’d have to say the winner is Samuel Andryk, an American singer songwriter based in Amsterdam, who’s launching his newest album in early october. for this debut, he’s asked me to create a special scented candle that fits the vision and mood of his album called “Romanticism” — the music of the sensitive soul and the restless mind that grows louder as the city grows quieter.

so, we came to this wonderful piece: a deep red male torso, scented with warm woods, cashmere & rose, packaged in a black box with a shiny black label on the back and a golden wax seal at the front which reads “romance is not dead”. what do we think? 👀

so you don’t think candle making is hard?

let me ruin that opinion for you 💀

→ every wax has its own personality and none of them melt or pour at the same temperature. get it wrong by a few degrees and the whole batch is cursed

→ you can do everything “right” and it still cracks, sinks, frosts, or tunnels like it’s got something against you

→ fragrance oil has a max load per wax type. go over it and it won’t bind

→ wick size depends on the wax, the container width AND the scent load. wrong wick = it either drowns itself or burns like a house fire

→ room temp and humidity can wreck a “perfect” pour

→ and when a batch fails, you don’t bin it. you re-melt it. which has its own rules, because reheating wax wrong just ruins the next batch too

the struggle is real 🫠

not gonna lie: this one was tough 😵‍💫

in my first failed attempts to demold this giant wax flower, i might have managed to break a petal or four, which i hope is forgivable considering it’s my first time making such a sensitive and delicate candle. promise i’ll do better next time 🌺
