Poarte - Delft Tiles

Poarte - Delft Tiles The most authentic hand-painted Delft tiles on the market.

04/09/2026

To really capture the authentic aged appearance that antique Delft tiles are known for, we offer our clients the option of adding characteristic crackled finish to their newly made Poarte tiles

The process is actually quite simple, and we don't need much equipment. The most important tool is the torch. We carefully heat glazed surface of the tile and then cool it down with water, creating quite a bit of steam along the way.

The quick change in temperature causes the glaze to crack, creating fine lined patterns. This crackling is a natural occurrence in Delft tiles that develop over time, but with this process we simply speed things up a little.

Once the cracks have formed, we rub the surface with a thin, dark powdery liquid. This settles into all those cracks, making the lined pattern more visable.

After a few wipes with a towel, the process is complete and the tiles have that characteristic aged, crackled finish. And because the glaze cracks naturally, every crackled tile is unique. đź’™

This is our P-17 | Springers series.

This series brings together 32 different animals scenes, all based on original antique Delft tiles. The name Springers, or “Jumpers”, comes from the way many of the animals are caught mid-leap in their blue circles.

There is quite a mix in this series, with horses, deer, rabbits, dogs, a fox, a hare and even a unicorn. Together they make for a playful collection with lots of variation and movement.

This series is available in a classic Delft blue and manganese and each tile is decorated with the PCM-01 Spider corner motif. Because everything is hand-painted, you’ll always find small differences in the brushwork from one tile to the next, just like with the antique originals.

Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm / 5.1" × 5.1" and is on average 7–8 mm / 0.3" thick. All tiles are suitable for indoor wall installations.

This is our P-28 | Sea Creatures series.

This series is based on an original Delft tile set dating to around 1760 and consists of 32 unique scenes depicting mermaids, mermen, sea creatures, ships, and boats. Together, these designs recreate the authentic look and feel of original 18th-century Delft tile installations..

Sea creature designs like these were especially popular during the 18th century. Boldly painted and decorated with the classic Spider Curl corner motifs, they remain some of the most recognizable Delft tile designs of the period.

Like all our Delft tiles, every piece is painted entirely by hand by our artists. This means that subtle variations in brushwork and shading make every tile unique while staying faithful to the historic designs.

Each tile measures approximately 13 Ă— 13 cm (5.1" Ă— 5.1"), is approximately 7 mm (0.3") thick, and is suitable for any indoor wall installation.

We have expanded our assortment with another historic design, the P-63 | Oval Flowers series.

This hand-painted series is based on a single original Delft tile, most likely made around 1630, making it one of the earliest ornamental designs in our collection. There are several different types of Delft tiles featuring flowers within an oval border, but this particular design is among the rarest.

At the center of each tile is a flower enclosed within an elegant oval border with Royal Charter motifs, surrounded by distinctive stripes that create a cross-like pattern across the installation. And together with the Three-dot corner motifs, this ornamental tile creates a decorative repeating pattern when multiple tiles are placed together.

As with all our Delft tiles, each piece is painted entirely by hand by our artists, making every tile unique.

Each tile measures approximately 13 Ă— 13 cm (5.1" Ă— 5.1") and is suitable for any indoor wall installation.

This is our P-30 | Ships & Boats series, based on original 17th-century Delft tiles from the Dutch town of Harlingen.

The collection brings together 20 different ships and boats, each flying the Dutch flag and reflecting the maritime history of the Netherlands. One of the most noticeable details about this tile, is the way the sea is painted. We've directly replicated this characteristic painting style from the 17th-century tile painters of Harlingen, preserving one of the details that makes these original tiles so recognizable.

Each tile measures approximately 13 × 13 cm / 5.1" × 5.1" and is on average 7–8 mm / 0.3" thick. All tiles are suitable for indoor wall installations.

This is the newest addition to our assortment!

Our P-68 | Flowers series is based on an original 17th century Delft tile set. The series includes 21 different flower designs, including tulips, crown imperials, fritillaries, irises, carnations, narcissi, marigolds, and more, all painted in the bold, stylised manner that is characteristic of the early Delft tile tradition.

The tiles shown here are painted in rich polychrome colours on our Grey Mix base and finished with pinholes and a crackled glaze for that aged look. Together with the classic PCM-20 ox-head corner motifs, they accurately capture the look and feel of 17th-century Delftware.

Each tile measures approximately 13 x 13 cm / 5.1" by 5.1" and is on average 7–8 mm / 0.3" thick. All tiles are suitable for indoor wall installations.

We were very happy to see our Delft tiles featured in this Delft Dreams project, a beautifully layered room designed by Chantal Lamberto for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Inspired by the timeless appeal of Delftware.

At the heart of the room, the fireplace serves as a true eye catcher, featuring 45 tiles from our P-7.1 Small flowers series in blue alongside 45 tiles from our P-7.2 Small flowers series with blue spider corner motifs. All hand-painted in blue on our Poarte-E base shade and finished with pinholes and a crackled surface for that subtle aged look..

This special project came to us through our dealer The Tile Room in Nantucket and was beautifully captured by .blanton.

We have expanded our assortment with this new series: the P-58 | Pomegranates series.

This hand-painted design is based on an original Delft tile made around 1630, making it one of the oldest ornamental motifs in our collection.

The design features a mix of pomegranates and grapes surrounding a central rosette. Along the edges and corners, additional rosettes appear that reveal themselves when multiple tiles are placed together, creating a decorative and flowing pattern across the wall.

The tiles shown here are painted on our Poarte-A shade and finished with pinholes and a crackled surface, closely resembling the character of the antique original.

Each tile measures approximately 13 Ă— 13 cm (5.1" Ă— 5.1") and is suitable for any indoor wall installation.

We would like to highlight our long-standing dealer , located in Franeker, the Netherlands.

For over 50 years, Regts has specialized in antique Delft tiles and is currently the largest dealers in original Delft tiles. Their collection covers the entire production period of Delft tiles, from the earliest examples dating to around 1570 through to the end of production around 1900.

For quite some time now, Regts has also represented our Poarte reproduction Delft tiles. This collaboration is a natural one, as all Poarte designs are directly based on the original antique tiles found within the Regts collection. Together, we aim to preserve and continue the Delft tile tradition for future generations.

“With selling reproduction tiles, we want to make sure people will still be captivated by original Delft tiles 400 years from now. They allow us to revive forgotten designs while making Delft tiles accessible to a wider audience.” — Durk Regts

We are especially pleased that Regts’s showroom offers the rare opportunity to experience both original antique Delft tiles and our hand-painted reproduction tiles side by side, creating a unique connection between old and modern craftsmanship.
