A bench is best experienced by sitting on it.

During Amsterdam GLUE, we invited visitors to take a seat on our Ben Bench and share their thoughts.

Here's what they had to say.

DESIGNED TO ENDURE

On 30 September, Functionals and Vitra brought together three perspectives on creating for the long term.
Tim Reusch, Thomas Bedaux and Tim Brans shared their views on adaptable spaces, timeless craftsmanship, circular materials and reuse. Different disciplines, connected by one question: how do we create spaces and objects that remain relevant over time?

A look back at an afternoon of ideas, conversations and new perspectives.

Three legs. Three generations. One family story.

Designed by GECKELER MICHELS, the HJW coat stand celebrates 50 years of functionals’ history—formerly known as van Esch. Its three powder-coated steel legs represent the three generations behind the family business, while its name pays tribute to the founder, Hendricus Johannes Wilhelmus (HJW) van Esch.

A functional object shaped by heritage, craftsmanship and thoughtful simplicity.

Crafted to age beautifully.

Miller’s dark brown upholstery is made from 4 mm thick, high-quality leather, carefully finished with natural waxes and oils. Over time, the material develops even more character, making every chair truly unique.

Comfortable, elegant and made to last.

Power, right where you need it.

Ben can be fitted with an integrated power module, making it easy to charge mobile devices while you meet, wait or take a moment to recharge yourself.

A thoughtful addition that turns public seating into a truly functional part of the space.
