Yesterday I said goodbye to my kitchen.
From now on, you’ll be able to admire it in a superb new and unique kitchen truck display at the Oorlogsmuseum Overloon in the Netherlands.

I am SO happy that we managed to find an agreement with the museum’s director Erik van den Dungen. Now the kitchen gets an exceptional purpose for the future.

Many thanks to Andreas Smulders for the professional and very kind reception and assistance. 😘 to all WW2 Field Kitchen crew members, but especially to Pipo Christoph, Frank Etten and Lea Lngbt for the very much appreciated support in Overloon!

The dice have been cast!

Next weekend marks an important moment in my 'hobby career' as a army cook. I decided to hang the apron on the hook and to sell the kitchen.

Fortunately, I managed to find a great - and educational - future for the biggest part of my collection. My dream, to make the history of U.S. Army kitchens during WW2 vivid and tangible, gets a nice follow-up. But more on this later.

This weekend's farewell is going to come with a tear and a smile. It is certainly not easy to close this chapter. The fond memories of the countless wonderful events and encounters will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Cooks Pipo & Alex preparing a second load of luncheon meat slices on top of a M-37 Field Range. Pork luncheon meat was one of the canned meat products that was very often used by field kitchens in Field Ration B dishes during WW2.

Regardless of the source of production, the soldier disparagingly called all pork luncheon meat "SPAM", referring to a brand of canned cooked pork made by Hormel Foods Corporation. Through its overissue to troops, it was often disliked and became the butt of many jokes.

Excellent view on the operations in our kitchen while preparing the ranges for cooking. The burners have to be filled with new gasoline outside of the truck, away from the zone where food is prepared. The cook in the truck is lighting a burner for its next cooking task.
