When a newly-wed couple asked me to redesign their century-old apartment in Warsaw, they came to me with one clear memory.

The blue of the Baltic Sea on the day they got married. The colour of the sky above the dunes, the light on the water, that specific shade that belongs to that specific day.

We translated that memory into an interior concept that runs through the whole apartment, and nowhere more visibly than in the kitchen.

This is what I mean when I say a kitchen can be designed truly for you. Not just functional, not just beautiful, but yours in a way that nobody else's kitchen could be.

On June 16th Brielle and I are hosting a free live masterclass on kitchen design if you are at the beginning of your own story. Link in bio.

A kitchen starts long before anyone picks up a tool.

This is a drawing set for a bespoke kitchen. Every dimension considered, every detail resolved on paper before a single cabinet is made. The position of each element, the relationship between materials, the height of the worktop, the depth of the shelves. Nothing left to chance or to interpretation on site.

Behind every set of drawings like this there is a team of people who have to understand them completely and execute them without compromise. A maker who reads the detail and knows exactly what is being asked. A contractor who respects the intent.

I am lucky to work with people like that. It makes all the difference between a kitchen that looks right in a photo and one that is still right ten years later.

If you want to understand how this process works from the very beginning, Brielle and I are hosting a free live masterclass on June 16th.

Some combinations just work. Not because of a rule, but because the eye settles and the hand wants to touch both.

Walnut is warm, organic, alive. Every plank slightly different from the next. A floor to ceiling cabinet in this material has a presence that is hard to describe. Massive and grounding. Some would call it heavy. I never do.

Baby blue base cabinets are the opposite: smooth, seamless, engineered to be uniform. No joints, no variation, no surprise.

And yet here they are, completely at ease with each other. A little serious, a little playful, finding their balance somewhere in between.

Finding that balance is one of my favourite parts of the design process. Not just choosing beautiful materials, but understanding how they will live together.

If you are curious about how these decisions come together in a real kitchen renovation, Brielle and I are hosting a free live session on June 16th. Link in bio.

This is what a kitchen looks like when every decision was made in the right order.

✨ The layout designed around how you actually move.
✨ The storage planned before the cabinetry.
✨ The materials chosen once the fundamentals were resolved.
✨And a colour that came from somewhere deeply personal.

This is the result. But it always starts with a conversation.

On June 16th, Brielle Jones from and I are going live to help you start that conversation. Free, no jargon, just honest expert guidance.

This is my favourite shot of this kitchen.

We had a professional photoshoot here with the stylist, and this kitchen ended up in a few magazines. But I have also prepared breakfast here in my pyjamas, watched bread crumbs scatter across that worktop, and spilled water while washing ripe berries in August.

Every summer I am reminded that the best kitchens are not the ones that look perfect in photos. They are the ones that look just as good when life is happening in them. This one does both.

I never get tired of this kitchen. I hope you all have one like it someday. Not a blue one necessarily, but one that was truly designed for you.

On June 16th Brielle and I are hosting a free live session on kitchen design, if you are curious about how spaces like this come together. Link in bio.

Have you heard of Laon?

I hadn't either. A friend mentioned it almost in passing after visiting family in France. That is exactly what makes it special — it flies completely under the radar, and it completely delivers.

About 3.5 hours from Rotterdam, Laon is a medieval hilltop city in northern France that feels like it was lifted from a storybook. The entire old town sits on top of a dramatic ridge, enclosed by 7 kilometres of ramparts and anchored by one of the earliest Gothic cathedrals in France. Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, it predates Notre-Dame. For a city this size, the density of history is remarkable with over 80 listed monuments, and the status of City of Art and History to go with it.

As an architect, I had to stop every few steps. Our daughter was more interested in the pastries, and if you know me, you know we found a compromise. 🥐
It is the kind of place where history is impossible to ignore but so enchanting that an 8 year old can genuinely enjoy it.

We stayed the night at . Historic house, creaking floors, marble fireplaces, and Pierre who made us feel immediately at home. Warm, easy, and wonderful with kids.

Next stop in this series: Reims. Follow along if you'd like.

Here's someone I want you to meet.

This is Brielle Jones from and if you've been following my stories lately, you already know her name.

Brielle is a professional organiser and interior stylist based in Utrecht.

Her superpower is seeing what others miss. Where friction builds, where daily life gets stuck, and how to design spaces that quietly support you instead of quietly draining you. She works with function and beauty together, because one without the other simply doesn't last.

Then we worked together on a project. A busy family navigating a full home renovation while living there. I took care of the layout redesign and interior direction. Brielle handled setting up storage systems, sourcing, and styling. And somewhere in the middle of that collaboration we realised our skills fit together really well.

So when she invited me to join her for a masterclass on kitchen renovation, it felt like the most natural yes.

Because here's the thing. Most kitchen mistakes happen before anything is built. Wrong layout, poor workflow, no preparation space, power points in all the wrong places. By the time you notice, it's expensive to fix.

That's exactly what we're tackling together on June 16th. Design meets real life functionality. How to design a kitchen that is not just beautiful but one that actually works for the way you live.

Free, live, and very practical. Link in bio.
