That one was a lot of fun, big cats always are.
It’s partially healed and partially fresh, since we had to split it into two sessions.

This actually shows how unpredictable tattoo time and cost can be. Around the same period, I tattooed a male client who’s about 190 cm and a female client who’s around 160 cm. She got her upper arm done, he got his lower arm. Normally, the upper arm takes more time, but I finished hers in one session, while his took one and a half.

That’s exactly why I always advocate for consultations. Every client is different, and giving a quote over messages can be way off if you haven’t seen your canvas.

There it is.
As always, I had fun designing this piece from scratch. I really enjoy dark motifs they feel very natural for me to create.

Funny how I kept pushing myself for a long time to do colorful neotraditional designs, but they never felt as natural. Seems like people can sense that too.

Maybe instead of drawing cute birds with flowers and hearts, I should focus on vampire and skeleton flash designs?

Around 8 hours of work UNFINISHED

I decided that even though it’s not done, I’ll post it here for now. I’ll probably delete it the day I finally decide to complete it.

It’s strange because I’ve never felt this way before. It started off extremely smooth, and honestly, it still is but for some reason, I feel absolutely nothing while painting it, and that weirds me out.

I kind of want to test the varnish on it as well, but then I think, ‘Ehh, maybe one day I’ll finish it.’

Let me tell you… working on a piece like this is a confusing experience. I love pushing myself through things I’ve never done before, challenging my brain just to see it evolve. The dopamine rush I get from painting is unreal, and yet, there’s this strange pattern I’ve noticed time and time again…

I don’t like finishing them.

The moment I have to decide that enough is enough, I assume I should feel joy another painting completed, right? But no. It just feels empty, like, “Oh, that’s it? Hm. Okay.” I guess it ties into that saying: The journey brings happiness, not the destination.

But if there’s something good to take from this, it’s that I enjoy the process more than the finish line. And that just makes me want to do it more often.

I wouldn’t say it’s truly finished, as I feel I could have spent another 20 hours on it. But since time is limited and it’s meant to be a gift, I’ll leave it as it is.

I really enjoy these processes because I learn so much from them.

During my recovery, I used some of the time to focus on a painting study. It turned out to be quite an interesting challenge. At one point, especially during my second attempt, I was losing hope of achieving the smoothness I was aiming for. But somehow, I managed to work through it and resolve the issue.

If I find the time, I’d love to create a small series of rose studies. Roses are a recurring subject in tattooing, and mastering them completely is definitely on my list of goals.

As for whether this piece is for sale—well, feel free to send me an offer, and I’ll think about it. What I have in mind, though, is possibly turning it into mini prints.

Let me know what you think about the idea of prints, and I’ll see what I can do!

This tattoo was a recent project, where I refreshed some old orchid flowers, adding a new motif and a small cover-up. (If you can’t tell where the cover-up is, that means I did my job well!)

As with many of my projects, this tattoo was done in two sessions, giving me greater control over the greywash. The tattoo is partially healed here, but the real test will be how it holds up in about five years. I’m already feeling confident about its longevity.

Some years back, I faced a dilemma due to the Instagram trend of lighter tattoos. While they look amazing in photos, their lifespan is often short. From the start, I began focusing on darker tones, going back and forth with this approach. Then, by coincidence, a client I had tattooed five years earlier came into the shop. I could see how that tattoo, originally quite dark, had softened beautifully over time, settling into the right tones without fading.

Remember, tattoos are for life, not just a year or two. They need to be applied in a way that ensures they’ll serve you well for years to come.

I’ve started splitting some projects over two or more days, and I’m leaning into this approach more and more because it produces more solid results. When I first began doing realistic tattoos, I encountered a mentality of “who can do it faster,” which now seems to me like the most irresponsible approach possible.

Tattoos stay with you for life, and the process of creating one shouldn’t feel like getting a burger at McDonald’s. Every body is unique, and each skin type has its own needs and responses to ink. My role is to understand my canvas fully, and that’s exactly what I intend to do. I’ll take however much time is needed because the final result is what matters most. Amen.
