kar.ma LIVING Nepal

The latest initiative of kar.ma COFFEE together with it's NGO partner for Life (RfL) has started training women in carpentry, taking a bold step into unchartered territories in Nepal. This is aimed to kickstart a vocational training center, which will eventually be the CREATIVE side of the social business - working with new product design and keeping the kar.ma line fre

sh and dynamic. All costs of the initial phase of the establishment of the training center are covered by Roots for Life and managed by kar.ma COFFEE. Gosch's and LIenhart's vision is to empower women to generate their own income either at kar.ma LIVING or outside, while upgrading traditional knowledge with a modern twist. Follow the stories of the four bold women from Khokana who have taken this bold step, and of a journey how to start a business with a cause from scratch. We will document it every step of the way - give it some love, a pat in the back, some constructive criticism, and an occasional hug. The STORY

The principles behind Karma Coffee mandate working with producers all through the coffee chain, getting more and more small producers benefiting from the social business. Its worked pretty well so far, and apart from stakeholders directly involved in the coffee process, we engage with a host of other producers. Recently, we realized that it is really difficult to get workers who are passionate about trying new designs away from the traditional style and workers who have the knowledge of modern techniques and equipment. Many designs stayed in the ‘ideas folder’ and got dusty. Carpentry is a very male dominated, dirty field of work – most think. BUT, why not training women working with wood and changing that image? With help of SABAH Nepal and Roots for Life, kar.ma coffee selected four young amazing women from Kokhana for a training period of 5 months. They will later be absorbed into the initiative, earning full time as prototype developers / trainers / producers. kar.ma coffee is proud to be working with these amazing young women. Bold, strong, with character.

Forget factory-made perfection—we’re all about character around here. 🛠️✨
Here’s a little sneak peek behind the scenes in Patan! Every single one of these brass coffee scoops starts its journey as recycled brass, melted down and shaped completely by hand by local artisans.
And our favorite part? That logo! Instead of a cold, laser-cut stamp from a machine, our artisans literally carve every tiny detail into the metal by hand. No two are identical, and honestly, that’s what makes them special.
Because at kar.ma handmade, every product has a story. 🪵
Your daily coffee moment awaits the touch of a handmade brass coffee scoop. Time to level up your morning brew ritual! ☕ Scoop, pour, repeat.

For a while now, our signature green glaze has found its place on our saucers, classic mugs, tea cups, and takeaway cups. But every time we sat down to craft a concentrated shot, we kept asking ourselves: Why not for espresso? ☕✨
We went back to the studio with our artisans, worked on the molds, and gave our strong morning pour the same earthy tone as the rest of the collection.
Swipe through to see how the new green sits alongside our classic Charcoal (Black) and Olive (White) variants. Every single piece is hand-thrown and finished right here in Nepal, carrying its own little character.
Slide through the carousel to meet the trio. Which one are you reaching for first? 💚🖤🤍

You know how some of the best ideas just sort of happen when you aren’t looking for them?
A while back, we were hanging out in the hidden courtyard of our carpenter’s workshop, just watching him work on the new brew stations for the hubs. If you’ve ever run your hands over the wood at kar.ma, you already know the kind of quiet mastery he puts into everything. 🪵✨
But the whole time we were there, we couldn’t stop looking at this tiny, completely unassuming wooden stool his wife was sitting on. She was right there with him, helping him out, sitting close to the action. It was just a simple, honest little thing he’d put together so they could share that workspace together. There was so much beauty in how functional it was, and how it naturally brought people together.
So we thought—why not bring a piece of that exact courtyard rhythm back to our community?
We worked with him to shape this new multipurpose piece out of solid mango wood. We didn’t want to complicate it, so we kept it simple. Pull it up as a sturdy little stool when friends drop by for a conversation, or use it as a side table to hold your morning pour-over. It just fits wherever your day takes you. ☕🛋️
Next time you visit the hubs, drop by and check it out. It carries a really lovely piece of that maker’s courtyard with it.

The time, texture, and quiet dedication embedded in every single hand-stitched line.
There is a rhythm to things made by hand—a slow, deliberate language spoken in threads, knots, and textures. 🧵✨
These aren’t just accessories; they are tangible pieces of time. Hand-woven, hand-stitched, and brought to life by local independent artisans in Nepal, each piece carries its own subtle imperfections that make it entirely unique. In a world that fast-forwards through everything, we choose to slow down and honor the patience it takes to create something that lasts.
Carry a piece of the story with you wherever you go. 🏔️💼

What does conscious luxury feel like? For us and our friends at Hotel Karuna ( ), it feels like letting go of the unnecessary to make room for what matters. 🏔️🧼
Eight years ago, we began collaborating with Hotel Karuna, stepping into a partnership rooted in shared values of slow living and mindful human experiences. Along the way, we couldn’t ignore a traditional hospitality truth: guest amenities are built for convenience, but they create a world of waste. Tiny plastic bottles of shampoo, individual soaps wrapped in paper and plastic, used for a night or two and then tossed away.
We wanted to offer a pause. A shift in the narrative. And so, the kar.ma Soap Loaf was born.
By creating our premium specialty coffee soaps in large, artisan loaves, we stripped away the corporate packaging entirely. The loaf is brought into the space in its rawest form and sliced as needed—eliminating the cycle of single-use wrapping and redefining what it means to care for a guest. 🧼✨
But this mindful ritual isn’t meant to be left behind at checkout. We designed the Soap Loaf so you can invite this sustainable loop right into your own home. When you take a whole loaf back to your personal sanctuary, you are investing in a slow, zero-waste process that endures—a single loaf is crafted so beautifully and densely that it can easily last your entire household for a whole year. 🏡⏳
The true beauty, however, is in the quality of the craft. Handcrafted locally by independent Nepalese artisans, these soaps are a luxury for your skin. We mix our organic, direct-sourced coffee grounds directly into the base, creating a deeply aromatic, texturized bar that naturally cleanses and exfoliates. The coffee oils and remnants don’t go to waste; instead, they find a second life, turning a basic morning shower into a mindful, skin-nourishing ritual. ☕🧖‍♂️
True karma is found in the loops we choose to close. Next time you run a hand over the rustic edge of our soap loaf at our hubs, take one home for your family, or enjoy a slow stay at Hotel Karuna, remember the hands that shaped it, the farmers who grew the coffee, and the 8-year journey to make waste a

The transformation of everyday waste into mindful home ambiance.
Every morning, we pour our hearts into brewing your favorite local specialty blends. But the journey of our coffee doesn’t end when the cup is empty. ☕✨
What you’re looking at is a second life. We take our used paper coffee filters, gather them with care, and piece them together by hand to create these beautiful, textured lanterns. When the light shines through, it catches the faint, amber warmth left behind by the coffee oils, giving your space a soft, calming glow.
Whether you’re winding down for a quiet, romantic evening or setting up a cozy corner, this lantern brings a piece of our sustainable circle into your home. 🌿🛋️
Here’s a quick guide on how to set up your Coffee Filter Lantern and invite that warm café feeling into your own space.

We believe in the beauty of things that take time. ⏳
These copper sugar pots are a testament to the artisan’s touch—a skill passed down, refined, and kept alive. Just as we cherish the history built into the temples and sculptures around us, we find value in bringing that same hand-hewn quality into our daily rituals at the café and at your home.
Because when things are made with care, they don’t just last; they connect us.
